One hundred percent of Software Developers want to excel at their craft… but that takes TIME and EFFORT. Why aim to be the best, when you know deep in your heart that some wunderkind will show you up with their Microsoft Azure certificate earned before their third birthday?
Who needs that? Stand out by carving your own path in the developer landscape. Be the best, by being the absolute worst.
1. Never ask for guidance ❌
StackOverflow is for losers who can’t afford to spend days fruitlessly troubleshooting.
Google is for the weak.
Show your potential employer that you are self-sufficient by never talking to them, or asking questions. Ever.
Smart people don’t show their weaknesses, so why should you? You know best, after all.
And if you so happen to take three days to complete a trivial assignment? No biggie! You’re just dedicated to your craft.
2. Only write code when you feel like it 😴
You can’t do your best work when you aren’t feeling fully committed to something.
Why try to cultivate passion, when you can wait for the hot iron of inspiration to wallop you instead?
One frantic weekend every few months? Relearning CSS for the eighth time? Still counts!
Learning at your own pace is crucial for success in the field.
3. Only Follow tutorials 🦮
Who has the time, or ‘passion’ to build their own projects, when you can follow along with Ben Awad as he makes a Reddit clone?
The best part? You don’t even need to learn anything! Just follow line-by-line and slap that baby on your resume!
You aren’t getting paid to be creative, so why waste your big brain energy thinking about what projects to build, or the pesky details of implementation or database management. Not your problem.
At this point, you have no choice but to burn bright as a software developer. Your future depends on the myriad of minor adjustments and tweaks you make every day. It’s a culmination of the work you put in. Make sure you’re focusing on the right things!
