Crypto and NFTs are officially banned in Grand Theft Auto
Hey Peeps!
Rockstar Games, the video game publisher of GTA, has officially brought the ban hammer down on Crypto and NFTs in online Grand Theft Auto V servers.
GTA V is one of the best selling games of all time, with just over 170 million copies sold.
Since 2013, players have been allowed to run their own fan-operated servers.
Some of these online servers operated as "Roleplay" servers, where users typically took on the roles of non-playable characters (NPCs) in the world and interact together online.
For example, some players would take on the role of a Firefighter, and would play the game as they were a real firefighter; putting out fires and saving cats from trees.
It appears that some of these servers were offering NFTs and Crypto tokens as a way to give players ownership of exclusive in-game items and unique benefits.
On November 18th, Rockstar Games announced changes, to their Roleplay Server policy, that effectively banned all NFTs and Crypto.
This policy also affects all other games published by Rockstar Games, including Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.
I was not aware of NFTs being introduced into normal video games until I saw this news.
I guess it is good to hear that Crypto and NFTs are making their way into more mainstream video games, but also sad to see the ban hammer come out.
I could maybe see Rockstar Games banning these, so they can attempt to monetize it for themselves.
What do you guys think?
Is this a good or bad sign for Crypto?
See ya!
