When Mcdo said that the girl was behind us, we suddenly got chills. We couldn't look back... We always sat at the back being the naughty students that we were hahaha!
Once during our free time, Mcdo told us that she dreamt of the girl asking for help... through prayers or even just lighting a candle where she died.
We didn't believe her then, and we ignored the girl's request. The next day, Mcdo told us another dream about the girl. She said that the girl was in their terrace looking at her... she appeared closer and closer until the girl was on top of her, choking Mcdo. She was calling out the name "Miyo" and her face was full of anger. It was as if she wants to eat her up alive! Then Mcdo's mom woke her up, asking why she was choking herself in her sleep. Mcdo cried to her mom. She decided not to say anything about the dream thinking that her mom won't believe her anyway.
Even then we didn't believe Mcdo, and we ignored what she was saying. But Mcdo told us that the girl kept disturbing her at night.. calling out the name "Miyo" and strangling her. True enough, we saw red marks around Mcdo's neck. We tried to joke around by saying that if the girl really strangled her then there should have been hand marks around her neck. But Mcdo asserted that the girl strangled her using a cord.. and we can't help but feel pity for our friend.
We decided to help by praying for the girl at her death place. But Kim wondered out loud, "How can we do that if we don't even know where the girl died?!"
We didn't know where back then, so Mcdo gathered the courage to ask the old janitors and janitress that have long been working at the school.
She first asked the janitors around school, but that didn't help as all of them answered they don't know. In the end, however, we found the right person to ask.
"Nanay Minyang, can we ask you something?" Mcdo asks the old janitress in our school. "What is it, hija?" she replies. "A ghost keeps disturbing me at night, did someone die here in the restroom?" The old janitress was shocked by the question. Her fear became obvious as she suddenly stepped back.
"Wh-why do you ask?" Her face showed both fear and surprise. "Because I keep having nightmares about the ghost I saw here. She always calls out "Miyo" and Manang.. she doesn't stop hurting me." Mcdo showed the red marks around her neck to the old janitress, whose eyes grew bigger.
That's when the old janitress told us about the girl and why her spirit is not yet in peace.
The girl used to be a student at our school, even considered to be one of the smartest ones, and her name was Patricia. She was the only child of a previous janitress named Teresita. The two had no other family besides themselves. The girl was raped by five men in the restroom which led to her death. Her mother, who saw her being raped, was killed as well, and both were stabbed to death.
No news about the incident was reported in the school as it was agreed to be kept a secret. Their bodies were left buried and justice wasn't served to the victims. The old janitress told us that she would just visit their resting place to pay her respects. As for the name "Miyo" that the girl always calls out, it turned out to be the name of her boyfriend. The old janitress knows this because she and the girl's mother used to be close friends.
She continued to say that the girl never once disturbed her. During her thirty years of service in the school, she was never scared by the girl but a lot of students happened to be frightened by her.
We thought that what happened to them was horrible. We felt really sorry for the mother and the girl so we decided to do something in secret. At seven 'o clock, we went back to the restroom bringing candles and, with the old janitress' help, lit the candles up. We weren't allowed to bring lighters and matches into school grounds so we needed her help.
We closed the door and prayed silently. "Whoever you are who keeps disturbing me, please stop it." said Mcdo. The atmosphere in the restroom suddenly turned cold... and the light of our candles went out.
"Hey, let's go! We're done here and I'm starting to feel scared." said Kim looking terrified. We quickly grabbed the candles but the door of the last cubicle opened with a loud bang. We looked back, avoiding looking at the mirror. We dashed to the door when we suddenly heard someone whisper, "Thank you." Then we felt an unusual gust of cold wind pass by in front of us... I still get the chills whenever I think back to this moment.
Since then, the girl never bothered Mcdo again. Mcdo even told us that if we did that much earlier then she wouldn't have been hurt in the first place. HAHAHA!
What we're really wondering about now is why we didn't feel the presence of the girl's mother. Wasn't she also molested and killed? We're not sure of the real answer to that. But what happened to them was really miserable. It was also unacceptable for the school to ignore what happened, as if they had no feelings at all. According to the old janitress, the mother was buried in the cemetery near the school. We didn't dare to ask where, the mother might just disturb us too!
