The factors and dynamics make the negative impact of social media on education, very difficult. This is because social media is owned at personal levels and in personal gadgets, and its access is more bound when the person using it, is having his own free time. This makes it difficult for learning institutions to find a continuous solution to this problem that is endangering to bring the credibility of education and education institutions to their knees. Still, the learning institutions can control its use in the learning sessions through establishing policies that will mitigate the effects and also create attention to the limits that the trend is not making any good but disrupting their learning process.

The learning institutions should govern how the students who post on behalf of the institutions or using social media in the working and learning environment. The students should be required to follow actions and behaviors that do not threaten the reputation and quality of learning in the schools. And these behaviors and actions should include;

Institutional voice: this requires that every post on social media will defend the voice of the institution by staying professional in the mood. The institutions should require that all stakeholders construe their social media site as characterizing the college as a whole. This should be examined while naming the pages on Facebook or tags on Twitter and selecting content to post. Negligence to observe this guideline will lead to punishing actions taken against the wrongdoer.

All communications made on behalf of a department, faculty or school, should be first be communicated to the appropriate communication bodies of institutions. The purpose should be supported by professional aim and commitment to continue by professionalism as required by the institution.

The schools should approve social media plans. The departments and schools should have their audiences, messages, and goals as well as develop plans for regulating the site and conserving the information updated. The schools should also regulate social media activities and will interfere when called upon to do that.

The learning institutions should then assist experimentation. When the schools want to use social media for learning, it should, first of all, aid the experimentation and take up to make sure that the system does not have loopholes that might facilitate the use of social media for advantages not intended to. This will involve guiding the stakeholders and instructing them about how they can use social media for their own benefits.

Another thing that rules should do is to motivate and authorize teachers. The institutions should empower teachers to be resourceful and creative with social media for learning activities on how to use and execute social media tools, how to handle safe use, security and privacy issues, and how to use them to improve equity and inclusion. The teachers should be empowered to take policy against the members who use social media in learning institutions for other objectives other than learning.

The policies and social media use procedures should also spell out the penal measures, penalties, and disciplinary actions that will be taken against the members who use social media for other reasons that are not supposed professional. The guidelines should also forbid the posting of school information that represents it in a bad light to the public. The measures should include among others prosecution, ending, suspension, and other correctional measures as believed appropriate by the school's disciplinary committee.

The learning institutions should also revise the assessment strategies. Since the adverse use of social media has infiltrated into the exam rooms, there should be a revision of assessment policies that will ensure that the social media is not used during the assessment to give some candidates added advantage over the others. The role and function of assessment and accreditation should be revised to allow different forms of assessment to ensure that no one reaps the benefits of social media during the assessment. The new policies will also assess the areas that have been compromised by social media.

The increase in technology has enabled the use of social media in learning institutions. Although social media has been used for learning activities, it has also been used in ways that have threatened the integrity of education. The use of social media has convicted students for laziness that they are no longer ready to conduct research. Social media has also led to poor performance due to the distraction of personal skills like pronunciation and spelling which was very important in the sharing of academic ideas. However, the use of social media can be governed by policies to mitigate the negative effects it has on education. Some of these policies regulate how social media can be used within the regulations as well as putting the codes of conduct and behaviors to guarantee that social media is used only for professional motives within the education system.
