Luck or Hardwork. What is More Important ?
here is the most important and complicated question of all decades: “What is more important for success : hard work or luck “ , with an answer that is perceptive to each individual . Some might say that luck is a driving force for success, while some may believe in working hard enough for success that will even lead to luck to bow down before them and the rest believes that the presence of both contributes in a guaranteed success.
Let us try to understand it with an example : Consider two individuals of same age with same degree of qualification. One was lucky enough to be born in a business family and therefore directly became the CEO of the company after completing his studies while the other individual will start from the bottom and the lowest hierarchy of the organization and will work hard in each step to gain promotion and thus after some time becomes CEO.
In this example, we have clearly seen that how both the individuals have reached the same goal but the time taken by the hard worker is more as compared to luckier individual. So, did you conclude from this example that luck is more important ? No, although luck is less time consuming but the difference here will come while handling the organization because the skills , experience , knowledge and habits that a hard-worker had achieved are quite different from lucky individual .
Here the hard worker had understood and experienced all the problems and solutions in every job hierarchy and will also know how to gain trust and make every work more productive. While, in the case of lucky individual who had inherited his dad’s position as CEO will not have those skills or experience as he had not himself worked in the lower hierarchies.
So, from this story we can conclude that both hard work and luck brings a shift or change in the attitude, skills and experience. Sometimes an unlucky individual can also make luck bow down before its hard work. We have all heard the famous story of Thomas Alva Edison , inventor of light bulb . He had failed 99 times during his experiment and succeeded in 100th time . So the main conclusion that we can draw from this is that he didn’t accepted his defeat when the luck was not with him . Instead he keeps on working hard which lead to success . Luck gives you success directly but hard work gives you success with a lot of experience , skills and sometimes failure lessons too .
But the fight between luck and hard work doesn’t finish with achievement of the goal , it also plays a crucial part in surviving in that position. A hard worker is always praised and preferred over others. Have we ever heard that an individual has won noble prize or any other award because he accidentally found a theory or medicine as he was lucky ? No , never , they all strive hard and work continuously to research upon the projects which leads to success at later stages and gives them what they want to achieve (that is success for them) . Even if your luck is with you in the first go , still you had to work hard to remain in that position . It is always advised to keep working hard until the luck starts following because staying dependent only on luck will give you a short-time success which you may not be able to continue just based upon your luck but if you keep on persisting hard work then at the end luck will have to follow you .
So while luck and hard work are the two faces of the same coin but hard work is more important aspect because the hard work brings out the other face of the coin i.e., luck too and without hard work , success is temporary . The basic difference in luck and hard work is that luck gives you something without fighting for it while hard work gives you something when you persistently fight for it. And that fight brings out the difference in the attitude of an achiever because the hard-worker knows the true meaning of success because he had fought deliberately for it and hence gets the true feeling of contentment . And that feeling of satisfaction makes an individual work harder to stay in that position and hence he knows the true value of that achievement .
So at the end it can be said that although there is a need of both luck and hard work to achieve success but hard work plays major role in it . There is no success if hard work is not there and if there is no hard work and only luck then the individual may not be able to strive that success for long . So lets not forget at the end
