Crypto/NFTs, Strike Continues!
As bitcoin becomes more widely accepted, more individuals are discovering how limited their freedom is as the government attempts to shut them down through bank accounts, platform registrations, and social media.
Many of you may be surprised to learn that you are not truly free. You are unable to articulate what you want or spend your money in the manner that you desire. Because if you do, you'll be shut down by the government. Have you set up a WeChat account? If you've ever talked about NFTs or bitcoin, you no longer have an account as of Monday, April 4th. All accounts tied to NFTs were suspended by the app, which is managed and sponsored by the Chinese government.
This isn't the first time China has changed its mind about a cryptocurrency-related issue. China has been known for its back-and-forth on cryptocurrencies since its inception, leading values to soar and fall in tandem with their ever-changing policies. Not only that, but to persuade its citizens to stop buying Bitcoin, the Chinese government established its own money, which is backed by nothing.
If you're an American, you're probably chuckling as you read the preceding platform, thinking you're much better off in the US.
During the latter week of March, Reddit underwent a similar housecleaning to that of WeChat. Although individuals who talked about Bitcoin and Ethereum were permitted to keep their accounts, practically all accounts that talked about altcoins or NFTs were terminated without warning—even if they didn't sell or manufacture NFTs.
The best thing is that if you are banned from Reddit, they quickly destroy your whole profile. So not only do you lose everything, but you also lose the ability to present them your evidence and make a case for reinstatement. What has been accomplished has been accomplished.
Is it awful that Reddit and WeChat are eliminating all of their users who are linked to NFTs? Wait, it gets much worse. YouTube has started removing people for no apparent reason. Many YouTube channels were blocked in 2021 and 2022 merely because they generated stuff that they didn't like.
Do you know who "they" are? Since the COVID epidemic, the US government has been encroaching on social media sites, guaranteeing that anybody who talks a narrative that differs from theirs is able to be removed. While this was most visible during the vaccine vs. non-vaccination argument, the US government did not stop there.
People who have enough money to lobby a senator, or who are senators themselves. As a result, they will be able to utilise their position to identify environmentalists as terrorists.
Before you assume these individuals are nuts, keep in mind that YouTube has a specific section in their terms of service that permits them to ban anybody who says something they don't like, and it's hidden behind the phrase "don't allow promoting hatred." If you make it out to be, anything might encourage hatred.
Are you here because your favourite platform has banned you for an unclear reason? The US administration may still refer to the country as a democracy, but freedom of speech on social media platforms is rapidly eroding. You do, however, have an option.
There are now a number of decentralised platforms, such as Odysee, that give a secure area for everyone to express their thoughts. Many of the individuals that were banned overnight have relocated to Odysee, so if you try it out, you'll probably see some of your favourite video creators there.
Regrettably, there isn't currently a suitable platform to take the position of social media. While there are several Facebook alternatives, the fact that all of your friends are present makes Facebook so much fun. So, if you discover a new platform that you enjoy, make sure to invite your friends.
