Spring, in climatology, period of the year among winter and summer during which temperatures bit by bit rise. It is commonly characterized in the Northern Hemisphere as reaching out from the vernal equinox (day and night equivalent long), March 20 or 21, to the late spring solstice (year's longest day), June 21 or 22, and in the Southern Hemisphere from September 22 or 23 to December 22 or 23. The spring temperature progress from winter cold to summer heat happens just in center and high scopes; close to the Equator, temperatures shift small during the year. Spring is exceptionally short in the polar districts. For physical reasons for the seasons, see season.
