Kashmir is the northernmost topographical district of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-nineteenth century, the expression "Kashmir" meant just the Kashmir Valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal Range. Today, the term incorporates a bigger zone that incorporates the Indian-managed regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the Pakistani-directed regions of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and Chinese-regulated regions of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram Tract.[1][2][3]
