The full name is National Martyr's Monument. It is situated in Savar near the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The monument was built to remember the sacrifice of martyrs who had died in the war of 1971. Still now we remember them with respect from the heart.

Almost every country of the world has a history of independence. Bangladesh also has a bloody history. We shed our blood in 1971 for the independence of the nation. We are now free just because of the sacrifice of these heroes. Almost 32 lakhs people had died in the 1971 war. And this National Monument was built to respect these heroes.

The National Monument is placed over a vast area. The area is secured by the boundary wall. It is a beautiful place indeed. There's so many lakes and thousands of trees. It's such a calm and beautiful place to spend some time there. A few days ago one of my friends came to my University from my village. He spent two days here. As The national monument is near beside my University Campus he wanted to go there. I took him to the national monument. Although I have visited this beautiful and respective place so many times.

Our University administration takes us to the place two days a year. These are 26 March, which is the independence day of Bangladesh and 16 December, which is the victory day of Bangladesh. We usually go to the national monument to show respect to those heroes who fought and gave lives in our Liberation war in 1971. One thing needs to be mentioned here is our Liberation war lasted for almost nine months. It started on 26 march and ended on 16 December.

So, now coming back to my recent visit. I went there with my friend. Although I came here before, it was the first visit for my friend. He was excited to see the national monument. And after reaching that place I saw happiness in his face. It was a good day for us. The weather was good. But rain started in the evening.

At first we took some pictures in front of the monument. The monument is 150 meters in height. And it has 7 pillars on both sides. The seven pillars represent the seven most important events before independence. These seven most important events are the language movement of 1952, the election of 1954, 1956 constitutional movement, 1962 education bill movement, 1966 six principle movement, the mass uprising in 1969 and the Liberation War in 1971. Each of the seven pillars represent one event of these seven. We got independence from these events.

This is our National monument. There is an artificial lake in front of the monument. And you can see it in the picture. The monument fully reflected on the water of the lake. It was looking so beautiful. The place is emotional for us too. The place reminds us how we have achieved independence.

Anyway my friend was so happy after seeing the monument. It was his first time. He was more pleased after seeing the beauty of the place. I walked all around the monument with him. Villagers always amazed after arriving at city. They usually lived in a calm and quite weather. But city life is too much busy.

We sat here for a few moments. It was amazing view there. Ducks were moving on the lake water. It felt like i can spent thousands year in this charming place. Green trees, lovely lake. I want nothing more...

After spending some moments there we came this place. Sat on the grass beside the lake. I have bought some nuts. We ate these nuts slowly.

These grass were fresh and green. It was rained before the day we have visited there so that these grass were more green. Anyway when we finished our nuts it almost evening there. And we stand up for coming out from the monument area. This was our visit to national monument of Bangladesh. I have tried to put some basic information about monument with the story of my visit. Thanks for reading my article.

All the pictures are mine.
