A Warning

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) of the United States has recently warned that quantum computers are becoming capable of breaking public-key cryptography algorithms, considering the increasing computing power and speed levels.

Quantum in Progress

Quantum, which has been developed since 1998, is a separate supercomputer in itself. The quantum computer, developed by Honeywell in 2020, was a topic of discussion in the cryptocurrency industry. That computer was not able to break this algorithm, but it is now known that Cambridge Quantum Computing is working with Honeywell on a project that will be able to take on every blockchain network.

Bitcoin is Strong, but...

The researchers say that the public key of bitcoin is not public, only the address is made public, so SHA256 encryption is formidable for Quantum. But there is no guarantee how long it will hold against the ever-evolving technology like quantum. Modern digital networks also operate on the key, and that isn't very quantum resistant. Therefore, the future of the digital age is threatened by the supercomputer itself.

Danger is Real

People believe that if the quantum computer succeeds, the whole digital world will change, raising questions about the control of not only bitcoin, but everything, including personal identity and even atom bombs. So everything should be updated for the best of mankind.

But, it is also true that while centralised entities and institutions can upgrade their sector, centralised crypto can also be upgraded and secured. But consensus upgrades are difficult for a decentralised technology like bitcoin.

Thoughts

Development cannot be stopped, and changes are law of nature, we should learn quantum and use it for humanity, it is not a threat, misuse is, and we can stop misuse of anything, because we develope it
