First Cryptocurrency Scammer In FBI Most Wanted List
The FBI, the US intelligence agency, has added a cryptocurrency scam offender to its top ten most wanted list for the first time. "Ruja Ignatova", often known as the "Crypto Queen," is that first crypto individual to have had the privilege, or rather misfortune of being included on the FBI's list.
The FBI LIST
On March 14, 1950, the FBI created the "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list to actively track down dangerous felons. Most Wanted is traced by a special squad, making it extremely challenging to flee. In the list's history, only 527 criminals (including Ruja) have been mentioned, and 491 of them have been apprehended.
The Ruja Ignatova Story
During the early crypto period, Bulgarian Ruja Ignatova launched 'OneCoin', a phoney cryptocurrency, which was promoted on social media and won the trust of investors before she disappeared (in 2017) with $4 billion invested in it. Ruja is sought for economic crimes such wire fraud, money laundering, and security fraud. The FBI has also announced a reward of up to $100k for information leading to her capture.
Public Reaction
The reaction of the people remains different in itself. Some people are joking about it, while some are objecting to the list as the name of some other criminal is not listed. At present there is no response on such reactions.
Thoughts
In 2020, during Covid lockdown, FBI alerted people of crypto scams, it was aware that such scams were coming, so it is not a surprise that a crypto scammer made into the llist. Now Ruja is 527th dreaded fugitive on the FBI's designated list.
