Nueva Ecija is one of the largest producers of rice in the Philippines. Thats why our province called " The rice granary of the Philippines.
One of the main source of income here in the province comes with farming. Different variety of vegetables like tomatoes, onions, eggplant, chili, okra, and many more were planted but farmers plant more palay or rice grains on there farm.
When I was a child, I am watching farmers to plant rice grains on the field. I am curious of what they are doing. They need to plant rice grains in the mud for a couple of hours and gets paid by a little amount. My classmate was one of those who plant rice grains because she need a pocket money to buy food during school days. She do it every week end.
As I grow older, I also appreciate thier effort. Being a farmers was not easy. In fact staying for a long time planting rice grains gives you a backpain. Staying for a long time under the sun get you feels uncomfortable. It will lead to heat stroke sometimes when it worst. The rice grain is itchy too that why farmers wear a long sleeves and a pants when they are planting.
Recently I hear the news that the price of rice grains was low and the farmers dont deserve it. They deserve a high income and a support from our government.
In this time of pandemic, we have a frontliners but we have also our backliners and thats our farmers. The one who provide one of our essential need and that is rice.
Lets appreciate our farmers! Never degrade them! They have an important role on making our lives more convenient.
YES to farming and NO to Subdivisions!
