Choosing a godparent.

Last Christmas day , some parents prepared thier kids to visit thier godparents and some parents choose a cashless transaction 😂 because it's pandemic and kids are not allowed to go outside. But did you know that aside from giving an Aguinaldo or gifts, there are more important roles that godparents needs to do with your kids?

This is one of the reminders of Antonio Tagle in one of his homily last year.

We can't deny the fact that giving an Aguinaldo is one of our tradition here in our country. The simple gift giving gives , most especially children a kind of joy during Christmas season. But always remember that is it not the only duties of being a godparent. Godparents are the second parent of your children and the one you can seek help with in terms of children welfare.

The godparents that you will going to choose are the ones who will be your child's second parent. You didn't choose them because of the gifts they could give. There are more important things than money and gifts.

Godparents are the one who is responsible and have concerns to your children. They always visit your children. That's why we need to consider this characteristics on choosing godparents to your children.

Characteristics of Godparents.

You should know the godparents very well.

You need to choose someone who is close enough on the both of you. In that way , you can assure that the Godparents will be a good influence to your child. You can trust them that they will love your child as their own child too.

They are responsible.

We all know that there's no perfect parent that's why we need to choose a godparent who can be offer a helping hand whenever you need.

Trustworthy.

If you will gonna choose a godparent, choose the one who is trustworthy especially on your children. Choose a godparent that you can trust when in case you have an emergency and you need to leave your child on them.

Good example to your child.

If you're going to choose a godparent, make sure that they are setting a good example to you children especially when they are growing up.They need an advice aside from their parents.

Godparents who has concern and love to you child.

In choosing a godparent, you need to consider if that person has a concern to your child. It is important role as a godparent because they are serves as second parent of your child.

And to all the godparents.

Always remember that giving gifts or Aguinaldo is not your only duties as Godparents and also don't let that thinking comes to your mind. If you're not able to give your godchildren a gift , don't feel guilty. Not having gift will not make you a bad godparents. Because this is not your only duties. A guide from you is a big part of their journey growing up.

It is also a reminder to parents that don't choose a godparent that you didn't know well and only choosing them because you know that they giving a huge pakimkim during christening or dedication. We should choose a godparent who is there even if it's not Christmas and will help you on your children.
