Bangladesh exports garments worth 32 billion annually. Among them, garment exports to France are around bill 2 billion. The target for Bangladesh's garment exports by 2030 is bill 100 billion (!). If not for the Covid attack, Bangladesh's garment export target by 2020 was 36 billion.
The anti-French stance of the people of Bangladesh has been seen regarding the ongoing Islamophobia in France. In this way, some civilized intellectuals have expressed fears that if France stops exporting garments from Bangladesh due to its anti-French stance, we will die without food.
I would like to say something in the context of such demands of the civil class.
First: You need to know. Europe speaks of Asia or any part of the world. The companies that buy clothes are kind enough to order clothes in our country, not that. They bought clothes from us because vampires are not possible in any other country of the world at such a low price.
Second: In most cases, I am giving an example of what kind of clothes are ordered in our country. Suppose the cheapest clothes in Chittagong are sold at the Hawkers Market. From here, rich and poor buy clothes. These garments are usually for everyday use. The everyday clothes of Europe are usually ordered in our country. Midrange clothing is ordered in Vietnam and China. And high range clothing is made in Europe. Many of you know a piece of information. That's it. Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of garments in the world. Yes, in fact Bangladesh is second as a country. But in terms of money, the world's second-largest garment exporter is the European Union. Even if Europe wants the low priced garments produced in Bangladesh, it cannot make them in its own region. Because there are no low paid workers in the area to make such cheap clothes.
Third: Which country is the alternative if you cancel the order from Bangladesh? Vietnam? Vietnam's wages are already higher than Bangladesh's. Workers' organizations are very strong in Vietnam. If he works one minute out of eight hours, he understands his wages. Therefore exclude Vietnam as an alternative. The West has long sought to develop Africa as an alternative region for the garment industry. Ethiopia, Senegal are their main targets. But the physical constitution and mentality of Africans is the complete opposite of this art. The hand shape of Asian people is most suitable for stitching clothes. Asians are skilled at stitching because their fingers are pointed. On the other hand, the fingers of Africans are very long, moreover the head of the fingers is thick, which is why they cannot keep balance while stitching. Africans are also a mentally unstable nation. If the mind wants to work for a while, if the mind wants to leave the work. It takes a long time to get them involved in this industry as they get involved in riots over small issues.
Bangladesh's rivals in the garment industry are all Asian. Apart from China and Vietnam, there is no one to compete with Bangladesh. Although Pakistan has the ability to compete, they are not in a position to compete for the time being as their country's religious restrictions and women's field of work are very narrow. The rest are India, Cambodia, Myanmar. India's wages are high, India has a population of hundreds of millions, but there is no environment or facility to bring together thousands of women workers in one place like Bangladesh (I will explain why not). Cambodian clothing quality is very low. It will take a long time to reach the level of quality of garments in Bangladesh which has been developed for forty years. This industry will not last long in Myanmar. The quality of clothing, the scarcity of women workers are the main reasons.
Let's come to the context of France again. Even if France stops ordering clothes in Bangladesh. Nothing like that will come. Then the orders will return to other countries. Israel has no business dealings with Bangladesh. But almost all the big clothing brands in Israel order clothes in Bangladesh. Which reach the Hype of Israel from Bangladesh via the port of Antwerp in Belgium. Therefore, for the time being, refrain from threatening to stop the order of French clothing.
