Tobacco is a product prepared from the leaves of the tobacco plant by curing them. It contains the alkaloid nicotine, which is a stimulant, and harmala alkaloids, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Dried tobacco leaves are mainly used for smoking in cigarettescigars, or pipe tobacco.

Tobacco or E-cigarettes use is so widespread that it increases the risk of coronary heart disease. Smoking comes with a devastating side effects to ones health due to the inhalation of poisonous chemicals such as carbon monoxidecyanide and carcinogens which have been proven to plaque build-up that will ultimately cause heart and lung diseases and even cancer.

The World Health Organization (WHO) marks May 31, every year, the World No Tobacco Day. This year’s campaign focused on “Tobacco and heart disease”. This advocacy will create awareness on the impact tobacco has on the cardiovascular health of people worldwide hence tobacco is the single greatest cause of preventable death and suffering of millions of people globally.

Quitting smoking will be difficult as it will affect you physically and mentally. But sacrificing just a few hours for the side effects of smoking to begin is nothing compared to the reward that your body will get for a lifetime, most especially to your love ones that don’t deserve to die because of your second hand smoke.
