The marble caves, also called "Marble Chapels Nature Sanctuary" are strange geological formations located near the town of Puerto Río Tranquilo on the Chilean southern route. These formations, found in General Carrera Lake, have been taking shape over the years due to the erosion of water and the wind against the coast, thus creating caverns or caves made of calcium carbonate. It is pure marble, in intense grey, pink, bluish and white colours. The set is made up of several caves or islets. There are three main formations, the largest is called "La Catedral" and the other two "La capilla" and "La Cueva". The crystalline water of the lake allows you to see how these formations are submerged in the water up to several meters deep. The beauty of the caves and the intense turquoise color of General Carrera Lake, which is fed by the waters that come from the Patagonian glaciers, form a magnificent ensemble that is worth visiting if you are touring this isolated part of the world. _______________________________________ Las cuevas de mármol, también llamadas “Santuario de la Naturaleza Capillas de Mármol” son unas extrañas formaciones geológicas situadas cerca de la población de Puerto Río Tranquilo en la ruta austral chilena. Estas formaciones, que se encuentran en el Lago General Carrera, han ido tomando forma a lo largo de los años por la erosión del agua y el viento contra la costa, creando así unas cavernas o cuevas compuestas de carbonato de calcio. Se trata de mármol puro, de intensos colores grises, rosas, azulados y blancos. El conjunto está formado por varias cuevas o islotes. Hay tres formaciones principales, la más grande recibe el nombre de “La Catedral” y las otras dos “La capilla” y “La Cueva”. El agua tan cristalina del lago permite ver como estas formaciones se sumergen en el agua hasta varios metros de profundidad. La belleza propia de las cuevas y el intenso color turquesa del Lago General Carrera, que se alimenta de las aguas que llegan desde los glaciares patagónicos, forman un conjunto magnífico y que merece la pena visitar si se está recorriendo este aislado paraje del mundo.
