Datehtanaung Pagoda, Myawaddy, Burma

Just across the friendship bridge in front of the city of Mae Sot in Thailand, is the Burmese city called Myawaddy. The city is still very small for Asian standards but developing very quickly because of its proximity to Thailand. Only a small river named Moei or Thaunggin separates the two countries.

Myawaddy is a city composed mostly of poor people trading or working in Thailand. Burma is still mostly underdeveloped and has been torn by civil war and unrest to these days. Even being very poor it is nice to see the respect they have for their holy pagodas. The top of Datehtanaung Pagoda is covered in small sheets of real pure gold. Even if this could mean quick and good cash, nobody has ever tried to steal them. I've only met truthful and nice people there.
