1.Beautiful Mind (2001)

This film tells the story of a true incident experienced by a mathematician from the brilliant Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) named John Nash (Russell Crowe). Nash is proof that genius and insanity are very subtle.

Furthermore, the US Department of Defense then assigned Nash to a group that worked to scan newspapers and magazines for secret codes tucked into the text.

But it turned out that none of this was real because Nash was schizophrenic. His insanity wants to crack secret codes that affect his personal life, relationships with family and friends, and work.

The character is played by the famous actor Leonardo Di Caprio, while Carl is played by Tom Hanks.

3.Dunkirk (2017)

The Dunkirk film adapted from a true story takes the story of a military operation to save soldiers trapped during World War II. Operations started from 26 May to 4 June 1940.

In the film, it is told that there were more than 400 thousand British and French soldiers during World War 2 who were displaced in Dunkirk. They are waiting for the miracle of rescue action. If not, they are all in danger of dying because they are getting critical.

Dunkirk will offer viewers to see three points of view, namely The Mole (land), The Sea (sea), and The Air (air). Each has a different time span, The Mole 1 week later The Sea 1 day while The Air 1 hour.

The ground viewpoint will tell Tommy, a British soldier who survives to return home.

Then from the sea view point, there is a local resident named Dawson who is driving the boat with his son named Peter. He aims to save the soldiers.

Meanwhile, from the air, a Royal Air Force pilot named Farrier and Collins are trying to defeat enemy warplanes. Dunkirk will not have much dialogue, focusing on the action of war and the struggle of soldiers to save themselves from besieged areas.

4.Deepwater Horizon (2016)

A film made by Peter Beg and produced by Summit Entertainment, premiered in September 2016 in the United States.

The story of Deepwater Horizon begins with a chief engineer, Mike Wiliams (Mark Wahlberg) who has to go back to work to drill for oil off the Deepwater Horizon.

Unfortunately, the drilling experienced 43 days delay from the scheduled oil transportation. Long story short, oil drilling continues.

Initially there were no problems, but after Mike Williams tried to encourage the oil drilling, then the problems occurred little by little until they failed. From this failure that triggered a terrible explosion and killed many workers.

This film is based on a similar true story that occurred on April 20, 2010. After the fire, the ship sank into the ocean.

5. Sully: Miracle on the Hudson (2016)

Sully is a film based on the autobiography of the emergency landing of Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger in January 2009 on US Airways Flight 1549 on the Hudson River. The rescue action saved 155 passengers and crew, although most suffered minor injuries.

On January 15, 2009, US Airways pilot Captain Sully and First Officer Jeff Skiles flew from LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Three minutes after the flight, at an estimated altitude of 2,800 feet (850 m), the plane was attacked by a flock of birds, shutting down both engines.

Without engine power, Sully estimated that it would not even be possible for all airplane passengers to reach the nearest airport (Teterboro Airport). Finally Sully decided to land the plane on the Hudson River. Although there were no casualties and his actions were hailed as heroes, the incident actually forced him to face investigations that could threaten his career and reputation. This is because the National Transportation Safety Board is adamant that the aircraft can land safely at one of the airports without an engine without having to make an emergency landing on the river.

6.Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)

Hachi: A Dog's Tale is a 2009 drama film based on the 1987 Japanese film Hachikō Monogatari. The original film tells the true story of an Akita dog named Hachiko who lives in Japan in the 1920s.

The story begins when a music professor, Parker Wilson, finds a puppy on a station platform in Bedridge. He decided to take him home.

I was so close, every day Hachi drove and waited for Parker every time he left and came home from work at 5 pm at the same station. This lasted until Hachi's dog grew up.

One time, Parker, who was teaching a class, suffered a fatal stroke and died. Elsewhere, Hachi, who doesn't know, remains faithfully waiting for his master to come to the same place. Until 9:30 p.m., Parker's relatives came to pick Hachi back home.

However, Hachi returns to the station and continues to wait for more than nine years after Parker's death.

7. The Professor and the Madman (2019)

For those who like serious and historical films, The Professor and the Madman are recommendations for viewing that are far from boring.

The Professor and the Madman is adapted from a book called The Surgeon of Crowthorne in 1998 which tells the life of Professor Sir James Murray (starring Mel Gibson).

Sir Murray, who was the editor and lexicographer (compiler) of the Oxford English Dictionary for the first time in the mid-19th century.

Murray who struggled to compile volume after volume of the Oxford Dictionary, he got the help of an American surgeon named dr. William Chester Minor (Sean Penn) who contributed more than 10,000 entries.

Both are described as 'crazy people' who are genius and obsessed with printing the history of writing the Oxford Dictionary.

This was the most ambitious and revolutionary project of that time in history. Why not, Professor Murray realized that it took him and his team more than a century to compile all the definitions of known words. However, the great thing is that dictionaries can be compiled in just a few decades.

In the last part of the film, it is revealed that dr. Minor is a convicted murderer and is being held in a mental hospital for an insane crime.

8. Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) (my Favorite )

This biographical drama film tells the story of the late Freddie Mercury who was successful with his alternative rock band, Queen.

Queen's long story of 15 years is made to be 2 hours 13 minutes. Even so, the director still manages to present the monumental stories that the four-member band has been through.

The story begins when Freddie visited a bar, where he saw the performance of a band Smile. One time the band's vocalist decided to leave, in short, Freddie also offered to become the band's vocalist.

The journey began, Freddie, who did have a crazy character, often composed songs for the band until they became famous.

In addition to Queen's story, viewers will also get a spectacle of Freddie's love story with a woman with a bitter end. But he instead finds a new lover at the end of the film.

The film based on a true story will show Freddie's last concert before falling ill with HIV Aids and the interesting thing is the concert is to raise funds for the survivors of the disease.

Those are some films based on true stories that might be learned from it. It turns out that life is indeed diverse and full of challenges.
