Imagine you are inside a library, not just any library but the most advance one, so advance that the moment you enter the building , the librarian a super computer by the way, already knows all the books that you have read before thier content, categories and every little details .

In a way our brain is like the most advance library of information in the world. What about the super computer librarian? That is our hippocampus!

What is this hippocampus?

It is a complex part of our brain that governs and control our long term memory, it has a major role in our ability to learn and to recall memories.

Why do we need to take care of our hippocampus now?

It's like this, if we know that a storm is coming the wise thing to do is to be prepared to avoid or minimize the damage. Unfortunately our hippocampus will eventually won't be able to function as effective as it is. For some, due to certain factors it will be sooner and for others it will be later.

What is the effect of a malfunction hippocampus?

One of the earlier behavioral signs of a malfunctioned hippocampus is having difficulties in finding your way and orienting yourself in the environment. Damaged to the hippocampus can also results in an inability to convert short term memories to long term memories.

Although the effect of aging to our hippocampus is inevitable there are other factors we should be more worried about.

What are these?

Some of these are injury, alcoholism, drug, disease and other unhealthy lifestyles

Good question, according to studies moderate aerobic exercise will help and of course wholesome diet rich in fruits, veggies, nuts, and healthy fats can improve hippocampus' function
