During an Earthquake, energy travels through the earth in the form of seismic waves. The point in the rocks zone of weakness where the breaking starts and where the seismic energy is the first plane, which is thr Fucos and Epicenter. It is found within the fault plane, which is the breaking surface underground. The fucos found at different depths and is classified as shallow ( 100 km deep ), the intermediate ( 70-300 km deep ), and deep ( 300 km and deeper ). The point on the Earth's crust directly the fucos is the Epicenter.
Note :
> The different in velocities of P waves and S waves is determined to locate the epicenter of earthquake.
> Earthquake from shallow epicenter originate from much closer distance to the Earth's crust. They cause the most dangerous damage as energy is emitted.
Terms ;
> Fucos - The area where the vibrating waves originated and movement of the tectonic plates happens.
>Epicenter - The area on the Earth's surface directly above the fucos.
>Seismograms - Are zigzag patterns the poper ( down ) drown by the pendelum of a seismograph that indicate occurence of an Earthquakes.
>Seismograph station - An Earthquake recording station.
