Pakistan cricket team's avid fan Sarim Akhtar had gone viral on social media during the 2019 World Cup last year. One of his pictures where he can be seen posing in an iconic way after being left disappointed by his team's performance had become a viral meme during the World Cup. Sarim can be seen standing with his hands on his hips with disappointment on his face in the picture, which became synonymous to Pakistan's shambolic World Cup campaign.
The Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament and were also handed a crushing defeat at the hands of arch-rivals India in the group stage clash. Not just Sarim but there were a few other Pakistan fans as well whose reactions to their team's poor performances were captured and shared widely on social media.
Pakistan have now come a long way since their World Cup exit last year and are currently gearing up to face England in the upcoming Test series which gets underway from Wednesday (August 05). Ahead of the start of the first Test in Manchester, meme fame Sarin has come up with a message for the Azhar Ali-led side and has urged them to play with pride and passion against the hosts.
"Arey yaar! Bas kar! Ek saal ho gaya! (Stop it, it has been a year!)," Sarim can be heard saying in the beginning of the video with the same expressions and clothes as he was wearing last year when his picture went viral. He then conveys his message to the team and wishes them luck.
"The Pakistan team have come to England for a Test series! Wow, what an exciting time! Well a simple message for Pakistan, play with pride and passion. Last time we had drawn the series and this time we have to win. With a simple message, if the ball is outside off let it go," he concludes. The video was shared by PCB on Twitter.
