·         What is the international mother language day?

·         what is Shaheed day?

·         what is the background of this day?

·         who gave the recognition of this day when?

·         what will we have to do to uphold the glory of the day?

·         why are we proud?

·         why do we remember this day very cordially?

Answer: It is our national pride that 21february the Shaheed Day has been declared the International Mother Language Day. Shaheed Day is a red-letter day in the history of Bengali civilization. On this very day of 1952, then the Government of Pakistan killed a number of students demanding the rightful recognition of Bangla language on the streets of Dhaka. This incident gave rise to the spirit of Bengali nationalism. A monument was built overnight near Dhaka Medical College where the police held the first killing. People burst into a rage in protest of this inhuman act. The government was bound to change its plan to abolish the Bangle language and approve of it the status of the national language of Pakistan along with Urdu. On 17 November 1999, UNESCO has declared 21 February International recognition. Now people from 188. countries of the whole world will celebrate this day as their Mother Language Day. They will admire us as a language-loving nation. We should uphold this glory. We must work hard to raise our national status as a developed country. Let the International Mother Language Day bring in a potential change in our national life. And at the same time let us be more responsible and sincere in our duties to society.

·         What do you mean by the mother language?

·         Which is the International Mother Language Day?

·         Why that day has been declared as International Mother Language Day?

·         How does the declaration come?

·         What are the objectives of observing this day?

·         How important is the day for the people of Bangladesh?

Answer: Mother language means a language through which the people of a country express their idea, thoughts, feelings, and emotions clearly. 21st February is International Mother Language Day. In order to show due honor and respect to the existing mother languages of different countries, the day has been declared as International Mother Language Day by UNESCO. In reply to a proposition of Bangladesh Govt. the declaration has come to reality. The day has a long glorious historical background. It is a matter of great regret that, the then rulers of Pakistan tried to impose ‘Urdu’ as the state language upon us instead of Bangla. Before the independence of our country in 1952, the then Pakistani ruler Muhammad Ali Jinnah declared in the public meeting that “Only Urdu and Urdu shall be the state language of Pakistan”. The people of our country burst into protestation against this unjustified decision. Some of the heroic sons of this soil came forward and sacrificed their valuable lives for the cause of the mother tongue on/ the 21st February 1952. The objective of observing the day is, to pay homage to the language martyrs. The day is important for the people of Bangladesh. Now it is a matter of great pleasure and prestige that this day got international recognition in 1999 as International Mother Language Day.
