Beyond Those Walls
Waves of silver shone in the sunrise off of the their helmets and armour plating, The battle hardy veterans wore scowls and faces of a grim set determination, Those eager, as new to the ranks spoiled for a fight, smiling, and hungry for war, They are legion and the Generals still crack the whip and scream annihilation.
Men and women stood shoulder to shoulder hoping their neighbour held, When the battle commenced those in panic will break ranks and ruin defense, "Beyond Those Walls lyes your enemy you must give no quarter fight to death, Don't let the sight of them strike fear in hearts," that tone was real intense.
Feet shuffled nervously in the Winter snow as toes went numb, nerves freeze, So little noise not even the carrion crows get restless on the black bare trees, "Beyond Those Walls is your only salvation I tell you, you must press hard, No retreat, no surrender!" came the voice carried loud on a Northern breeze.
They'd heard that through those huge pearly gates lay all manner of scourge, No-one had ever seen one but they'd been told tales since they woke of them, "Beyond Those Walls is the only route to Freedom and a life worthy of living, "Crush them and earn your escape," promised the Leader, Destroyer of Men.
And He aimed his red hand towards the gates and from his pitchfork came fire, An explosion rang out loud and there was smoke and confusion but we went, Marched to the trumpets and horns with the bugles resounding with hope, Beyond Those Walls into Heaven we marched as for Victory we've been sent.
Thousands of hooves and feet and paws all in formation well drilled and fierce, Wild with our constant drilling and threats and ravenous hunger for power, Beyond Those Walls we went into the armies of Angels and our fellow man, They'd told us they're demons, cruel or evil, but we saw mainly faces like ours, And the shock was they we were much alike that our hatred starts to turn sour.
Demons slew Angels who slew man that brought down Demons all round, Fields of bodies lay soaked in the spilt souls of spirits despatched by the blade, And hearts on both sides turned to thoughts of what were they both doing, For surely this war was one waged eons ago by now a truce must be made.
Beyond Those Walls the first brave soul laid down weapons and lost his head, Then the next and the next gave over to the futility, and surrendered to Death, Hundreds on both sides soon turns to hundreds of thousands in no time at all, As knee deep in ichor, still some bent to violence fought till plain out of breath.
At last God intervened to smite them in His anger, a wrath so mighty indeed, The Devil and minions were lost in the cataclysmic blast, they scatter like dust, Back Beyond Those Walls for millennia as He sings the cosmos back to as was, And those who'd willingly refused to fight, into a new co-existence are thrust!
