Do you get angry easily? How often do you get angry?

Anger is part of being a human. It is one of the basic human emotions. But, what differs anger from other emotions like happiness, sadness, or disgust is that it is highly aggressive and can be left out of control.

Anger can be triggered by many different reasons, some maybe big, some are small, and some are even senseless. We all have our own way on how we can control our emotions but most of the time, our mind cannot tell our body the right thing to do when our feelings is too much clouded. Hence, here are some tips on how you can control and tame your temper.

  1. Think of a solution first.

More often, anger spurs when we encounter a problem that we did not expect. It may be because of a mistake made by someone which can be you or somebody else or something that is really uncontrollable. By that time, all your feelings won't spell out and you get angry. In those certain instances, you should remember to think of a solution first. You should learn how to focus your mind on the current situation rather than turning your point on what you feel.

  1. Take a time to clear your mind.

Anger puts a lot of things in your mind, one after another. Before it ruins your mood or your whole day, take a timeout and clear your mind. You can buy yourself a coffee or treat yourself. You can also listen to music or go watch a movie. You can also sit in a cafe or better yet, watch the sunset. You can sleep, take a nap, or have a shower. The time you'll spend in any of this things is not a time wasted because it is also one of the human needs. Before your anger builds up into something big, you have to take a time to sit back and set your mind into a better shape.

  1. Never hold a grudge.

Feel no resentment and let go of the grudge. Don't let it pin you in the same place over and over again. The world turns and the sun will shine to you - the way you deserve. Let go of your grudge and do it for yourself. It is better to sleep with a light heart.

  1. Accept.

Whatever happened, accept it. There are things in this world that we can never ever control. There really comes a time in our lives that all we have to do left is to deal with the consequences. Acceptance isn't is but do it little by little. Pain demands to be felt, anger can come out of it but don't let it stay with your system for too long. The world is still so wide to explore, you have so much more time to be you. Accept the pain and the mistake, then learn from it.

  1. Forgive.

Anger will truly subside when you forgive. Forgive someone who made you feel angry especially when that someone is you. You are human and you are bound to make mistakes. You are human and you are flawed but that doesn't make you less. No matter how long it will take, you have to forgive, because it is when you've forgiven that you will have peace in your mind and you will start to see the beauty of life again. Forgiving does not happen overnight, but starting it today will make a difference.

  1. Control your impulsiveness.

You're just angry, don't make decisions just yet or throw words you know you will regret afterwards. Nothing you do with your impulsiveness will help you when you are angry, surely, it will only make it worse. Same as to anger, try the tips I've said in containing your impulsiveness.

  1. Vent out.

This tip depends on you. Some people can easily tell what they feel and others are the opposite. Nonetheless, you know the right time to speak when you're ready. It's not bad to express your emotions to other people. They could help you in some ways, may be you need a pat in your back or you need a shoulder to cry on. If you keep everything within yourself, you may become self-destructive.

I once tried to live with this emotion because I thought it will hinder my softness - it will be my wall so I wouldn't feel any pain again. Guess what? It didn't bring me any good.

If you're angry because of the past and you think you've been caught up with that emotion for too long, you might wanna try these things too:

  • Write all the things you wanna say and all of your thoughts in a piece of paper. Do this every time it clouds your mind and ruins your day. If you can, burn the paper. It has been effective with me.

  • Purchase a stress ball or you can DIY. Look for procedures on the internet. Put this in your bag all the time and when you feel the sudden urge to be angry, squeeze it. It is believed to calm you down.

  • Make up a better mind set. Try changing you thoughts.

Instead of saying, "Here I go again, making the same mistakes," try saying, "I am better this time, it won't be like before."

Instead of saying, "I'm really stupid," try saying, "Bad times really come along."

Instead of saying, "Nothing's changing, it's a waste of time," try saying "Small progress is still a progress, it will be worth it soon."

"A moment of patience in a moment of anger saves a thousand moments of regret."

Before I end this article, lastly, I want to emphasize that there can other emotions hiding in your anger - sadness, grief, regret. You need to reflect and understand why you're feeling that way.

Don't let your anger rule your world.

And, always remember, you are loved.

I think as you get older you learn to control your anger more easily. When I was young I was such a hot head but now I can see it was never worth it and caused more problems for me in the long term because I would say things that I didn't really mean and make a situation worse. I think age takes care of a lot of things.
