What do you mean by an act of valor? Valor means heroism or bravery. Every April 9 of the year in the Philippines, we are celebrating the "Day of valor" of our past heroes who give their lives for the sake of our country to achieve freedom. A lot of American and Filipino soldiers have died during World War 2, that we have benefited from their heroic acts. Heroism is a noble act which the new generation sometimes cannot understand or doesn't know about it.
On the other hand, a heroic act doesn't only mean to die for our country. It can be done in just a simple way or even very practical own ideas for our country. What are those?
Segregating our garbage
I can't imagine how admirable is the garbage collector who is still doing their job even if it is pandemic time. For all, we know that garbage contains waste, and viruses but they have no choice nowadays it's so hard to find a job. One way, we can help them by doing our part as a citizen of this country, by putting our garbage in the right place. Like our plastics which can be sold, we can give it to somebody who collected plastics for their living, it can help them in a small way.Or by making a compost pit, and classifying our waste to biodegradable and none-biodegradable.
By using recyclable material when we go to the market to lessen the use of cellophane. I'm very glad about one of our municipalities here, they have implemented rules for the community not to use cellophane in the market or the grocery store. And the people have adopted it because they have penalties with the violators.
Spread positivity
Social media is one of the main sources of information today and everyone finds answers to their questions by just searching it on Google, Facebook, and another platform. As a responsible citizen of this planet, we can contribute by sharing positive quotes and ideas which can help our society. Just like when we experience the earthquake last month and its 6.9 magnitudes. The people have panic because that was strong enough for us but there are some users on Facebook who have posted that there will be a magnitude 9 earthquake which will come together with a date. And yes, the people have panic they don't even go anywhere but to stay where they are thinking of what they should do.
We should be responsible for our actions. And lately, this could 19 virus there are a lot of fake speculations about the vaccine and cause anxiety in the neighborhood by not letting their children go to school.
There are a lot of ways to do some heroic act for the country like, if you were a businessman, my using the right scale for your products like rice, fish, meat, and many more. It means being honest to our countrymen matters and it's helping our country.
Buying and supporting your local products and goods of our land we can help our small businesses to grow and even spread patronizing our native land resources.
Valor also means bravery. But other people misinterpret this word by being brave to their own opinion, to prove that they are the only right person and the others are wrong. I always see this on the government side, they always keep on questioning each other but at the end of the day, they just want to be praised by people and their names to be made known for the coming Election Day.
But the real man of valor will act who doesn't seek for appreciation, reward, or recognition but doing it by heart for the sake of love for the country. Bravery to stand what is right and to contribute good things for our country. Theres no perfect government at all, not any perfect government officials but with people who knows the right thing to do , we should be responsible in any way we can.
We have known some heroes who loved our country and even give their life for the sake of our freedom, especially in Philippines that is why we should remember their contributions for the nation.If you have a grandfather or a family who is a veteran of the World War 2,give him a hug for they have done so much for all of us.
True heroes exists even today, our front liners who fight and stand still despite of the pandemic, nurses and doctors who serve us and the basic services men and women like sales lady, security guard, garbage collector, bank clerk and fast food crew, who serve the people day and night,they are our living heroes today.Why don't we give them a smile or appreciation for their act of service for the people.
We can be a hero to our own society and nation.We don't need due just to make a change but while we are alive we can do much better heroic actions.
