The Necessity of Reading

This afternoon I have watched a Tagalog movie entitled "ABAKADA INA".At first,I was confused why did the title was different.Then I finished the whole movie until the end.

And this leads me to the topic "the Necessity of reading".The main actress of the story Ms.Lorna Tolentino(her name is Esabel on the movie),was a woman who is "no read,no write",in short "illiterate",she didn't go to school since she was in her early age.Until such time,that she got married early and had a 3 kids.

Her job is to sell foods with what we called"kakanin like biko,suman",she knows how to sell her goods but she cannot read or understand especially with English words.

One day,she's with her friend on a restaurant and she is going to pee,but she can't go inside because ,she didn't understand the words "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN",that's why she just stay outside until her friend have arrived to the comfort room.She feel pity for herself for being uneducated .

Another scene that touches me,is when her daughter wants to help her read the alphabet letters from A to Z.She can read some of the letters but she really don't know how to read "letter Z".Esabel told her daughter,that the animals on the letter has lines(it's a zebra),just to make her stop asking.

On the next day,she told her husband that she wants to go to school,and learned basic words but her husband won't allow her.But what really hurts her is when her husband told her that"she knows nothing,she smell bad when she get home,"she can't even teach her young child with letters ".

She run away and go back to her mother,and feel so depressed.Then she read a Bible and she's trying hard to read some words on it.Until one day,she realize that she needs to go back to school,and she really did.Esabel and her younger child were classmate and her teacher was her mother in law.

Reading comprehension is very important in our everyday life,so that we can deal with people,do business,and other engagements that we have in our daily .

And as I have observed lately,that most young generations don't read books already,they just browse tiktok and Facebook.As what I have published the other day that there are a lot of students here in our school who cannot read words properly.

Why do we need to know how to read?

Reading enhances our thinking,it opens us to a new knowledge and learning from different resources.Not for the sake of argument or discussions.When we read some are just being chewed ,but not stored,we can learned valuable informations.

As I have watch the movie "ABAKADA INA",I realized that even if I didn't finished a degree course but I know how to read and understand especially with English words,even if it's not perfect but at least I can teach my kids ABAKADA and basic words and alphabet.

My parents also didn't have any educational attainment that's why they will asked me everytime they need to fill up forms and applying on something.Most of the time my father asked me how many kilos he sold and the percentage of his shared after he sold his bananas,he will show me the receipt.

That maybe very practical but it was very helpful to them that their buyers will not abused their illiteracy.If a person is illiterate,it can possibly turns out unproductive,and feel ashamed.

I know a friend whose like this,and he never go to any offices when he don't have any companion.Just like what happened with the movie he is unable to help his kids with their assignments.

Reading expands our vocabulary

The more we read,the better we can expand our vocabulary,just like making articles or blog or in any form of conversations. can sort out some informative points of view with other writers if we keep on reading other posts of writers.It will also gives us an idea what will be our topic next and how to make our write ups more readable .

Reading makes us active

Active in mind and thinking that's what reading can gives us.It also helps to solve a problem,when we encounter a situation and we can remember what we read on some parts of books ,google or anywhere .

Back to the movie that I've watched...

Esabel go back to school,with her daughter and she's keep on improving and learned to managed her piggery.And she can finally helped her husband to become productive while he is away.

Reading should be constant in our life,it's useful in every aspect of living.

And lastly,reading can make me 😴 sleep.
