Burning woods for living Life is getting hard these day,the prices of basic goods were rising,gasoline,kerosene as what I've heard from the news last night.Here in our place,some people had no permanent income like in daily basis. A lot of people here are farmers,raising livestock like goats.And others are being paid through harvesting mango,or cleaning a farm,but it's not permanent,just for a day or two. Lately,there is a trend technique here in making money,actually it happens before but now since the local government were not really strict,they can do the charcoal business.

As you can see in this picture ,this is a process of making a charcoal into finished product. First,they gonna cut some tress,(by the way the man cuts the camachili trees in this area)and make them into pieces,at least like 2 rulers is enough.And after cutting the trees,they gonna pile that on the ground,and they will form a square through putting some big sticks and other woods,to make it strong. After they finished piling the woods,they will cover it with the stem of the banana,and then cover it with soil,so that the fire won't come out and it will burned the woods inside.

This is the place where the man have dig a soil,so that he will cover it in the piled woods.My daughter is curious ,what if she can see some precious stone inside the hole,hehe.That's why she's staring at it.This hole is a few meters away from the charcoal pile.

This is a guava tree which he also cut,there are lots of guavas around here,and ipil-ipil.

Woods burning produces a lot of smoke,which also the unfavorable effect of making charcoal.Which I think,it takes a few days before it will be finished,almost 3-5 days,and he will watched it also during the night ,so that the fire won't stop burning the woods.

This is one of the charcoal that I bought last week which cost 200 pesos or $4 per sack.The price goes higher since last month,from 150 pesos or $3. The local government have implemented laws before that prohibits some residents here in doing this kind of living,but some people really insisted and get caught.Even in the nearby places here, a lot of people do the same ,to provide their needs.I know that its not helpful with the nature.The people still choose to do so,because they don't have a job and I think,it's easy money,rather than shading a lot of thirst in working at the farm. As the years goes by,it will take effect in our place.A few years ago there's a landslide in the next barangay because the mountains having no trees anymore. Recently,we had a shortage of water supply because of the landslide,some spring have already subside,and disappear.I'm thinking what will happen someday in the next generation if this kind of works still continue,and people didn't even plant trees to fill in the trees that they have cut off. If you will ask them why did they do that ,they will answer that,"they have no choice,no educational attainment,or even any opportunities especially here in the province where there are no big businesses which they can be hired." There still some residents here who chose to have a garden,in their areas , and they really earned a lot.But,of course it will take time to wait for the harvest time ,like 3 - 6 months before they can have an income.There are a lot of buyers here ,who have retail a vegetables from the remote areas. While doing business with charcoal is like a cat's and dogs situation,they gonna transport it during the night,or in the middle of the night,so that nobody could see it.Or ,if they will be spotted by the authorities ,they will give something like money,and they can pass at the checkpoint. Making this charcoal was not an easy thing,it's hot,smoky,and dust all over the person's body when they finished it.They are also sleepless,watching over it during the night. Sometimes,when my kids were become lazy in doing their school works,I will tell them that,if they will not study better they will end up of being a "mangugnguling(charcoal man)and they will just keep quiet and say,No". At the fist year of our marriage,my husband have experienced this kind of work,when he didn't have a regular job already,he used to sell charcoal,and I saw him exhausted.Gladly,he finds a job after 1 year. It's really a serious matter,when it comes to talk about livelihood,working opportunity in the society.In which, most of the candidate for this election has promised that they will make a job for the people.People are suffering from poverty,scarcity with their needs daily,that's why they will do every sort of ways just to provide their family. It also touches the point that our children should do their best in school ,so that they will not suffer the same thing in the future. Selling charcoal is a good business because a lot of businesses uses this ,but it will also harm us and in the coming generations.Hope that everything will be in balance and right way,where there is no need to compromise.
