Bedtime talks when I was a Kid
I know that everyone has a bedtime story to tell, my bedtime stories are not like the fairytale stories found in the books, not any fictional stories. It's different this was my memory when I was six years old. We sleep together as one family in one room, my parents and my 4 siblings because we have a very small house way back in 1997. At that time, there was no electricity already in our place, so we used "gas", a lamp with kerosene to have a light in the house. We sleep at 6 or 7 evenings. Yes, maybe that's too early if we compared today's generation's sleeping habits. So, our parents cooked in the afternoon at 4'o clock, and then we ate our dinner after they cooked, we used to do that because there is still sunlight. ***Learning the English Language on Bed*** Before we sleep, our mother will teach us some English language with different animals and things, and most of them are;aso-dog, Pusa-cat;kambing-goat;tubig-water;bato-stone, and many more. I and my brothers will have a contest who can answer immediately while we lie on our bed. She often did that to us every night, because she wants us to learn the English language. And I think my mothers effort really helps me a lot because that is my favorite subject until today . ***Solving Simple Math*** Another thing that our mother teaches us in bed is solving simple math, like 1+1=2,2+2=4,4+4=8, and so on. And because in the one who sleeps beside here, in the first one to answer it, hehe. My brothers will complain because it's just too easy for them.Regarding with math,I'm too slow with this . ***Her own story*** **Si Trining** Si Trining, Nikatkat sa bayabas, Nakita siya ni Elsa ug nahulog siya. Kinsa may nikatkat sa bayabas," si Trining". This is a very short bedtime story of my mother and I often heard it from her, and keep.on repeating over and over again She just invented this story, to have something to tell us because we often ask her. ***Her School Experience*** My mother always shared with us her experiences during her school. She finished grade 6 but didn't proceed to high school because her parents did not let her. She will pick up some guavas and bring them to school as a snack because their parents will not give her money for school. I couldn't remember everything that she said before but those things I've mentioned above are what remained in my mind so far. The last thing is; ***She teaches us about the word of the Bible*** Every night before we sleep she teaches us Bible verses, and memorize them before we go to sleep. Me and my brothers will find a verse in the Bible, mostly, we used to look at the Psalms and Proverbs because in that books there are a lot of short verses that are easy to memorize. We have to find it facing with out "lampara", and we almost burned our eyebrow (literally). For me, it's the most important thing that gives an impact on my life that I was raised with the guidance of the word of God. ***Father speech hour*** Not only, my mother has a lot to tell us, also my father was often talking nm his school experiences. My father finished grade 3 and after that, he stops. Her mother, which is my grandmother would let him clean the cornfields at least three lines before he can go to school. That's how hard with their situation every day, they will first process to the cornfield before they can go to school. After that, he will fetch water carrying at least two heavy containers, a few meters away from their home. That's why he got home late and go to school late too. He stops going to school when he reached grade 3 because his tired of all the work that he did at the same going to school each day. ***My Learnings*** My parents didn't finish school even just in high school, but I observed that they have the ability to or capacity when we talk about things in school like math or English they know how to answer some questions that I didn't know. It's just that, they haven't been allowed to pursue it. Despite this, even though they didn't finish school, they take care of us and send us to school as well and provide for our needs. Maybe the transmitted message that my father has done to us from his experience is that "it's okay for him if we didn't finish college for as long as we know how to read and write, just like his parents do with him. Maybe this is just the negative side that they are not interested but I'm still thankful to them for being a good parent to us that shows us good example morally and spiritually. The last one is; ***Questions and answer portion*** Every night, we used to ask them about what happened to us in the morning, and they will also advise us what we gonna do next time. We will tell them that we go to our friends and we are santol, guava, and we ride a carabao, and we take a bath in the river with our friends. Conversations with them I think is the best thing, that we are not resistant to talk to our parents openly, even our secrets, except the crush thing, hehe. The most important is that children and their parents should have a better conversation every day, asking and evaluating each other for the whole day, which would help to know more about each other and helps strengthen the relationship. I think the most important story that my mother didn't share with us is their love story, until now, and I didn't ask her also, I'm just contented that they stay together for a long time. Bedtime talks are a memorable moment of my life, and I will always remember it, as long as I'm alive. No words can describe each moment but it's stored in my memory how beautiful are those days we had for each other. It happens so quickly and now we have our own family and it will never happen that we can sleep with them again and any more bedtimes stories and talks with them. Even though sometimes my mother will be angry with me in the morning before we sleep we talk together and we then settled it.Its good sleep with a peaceful heart and mind, even if how beautiful is your room if the mind isn't peaceful its not worth it. Bed times talks is awesome,it's cannot be rewind or having any playback. Bed time talks is memorable , until my I get old I will always remember. Bed time talks where those days that we are one family and happy. And this is one thing that I want to share with my children, to talk to them before we sleep with my bed time stories. There's one song that my mothers always sang to my babies and the rest of the children with us which is; Te le le le leng, teleleng Te le le le leng, teleleng Te le le le leng, teleleng She will sang it all over again and the kids will dance while she's clapping. ***To my parents even if they cannot be able to read this;*** I'm so thankful that both of you are Gods gift to me,I never be able to live beautifully without you.You were the best people on earth that I know. Our memories will remain in my heart forever. Thanks for reading my story. I know you have story too? Feel feel to share it. Thank you, God bless . https://unsplash.com/photos/rQrZDwxQulElead image source, thank you.
