On 30th October 1961 the Soviet union conducted a nuclear test. They launch “Tsar bomba” a nuclear bomb on the Novaya Zemlya Island which is in the remote location of Russian Arctic Sea which would become the most powerful thermonuclear weapon ever detonated.

Tsar bomba weight about 27 tons,it was 26feet(8 metres) in length and a diameter of 7feet.

The Tsar bomba was dropped by a plane and the plane had a 50% chance of surviving, if the pilot wasn't careful the plane would be knocked out of the sky. After when the bomb was detonated a shockwave was observed in the air at dikson settlement which is 700km(430miles) away. The mushroom cloud reached an altitude of 210,000feet. Luckily the bomb was dropped on a remote place far away from human settlement and no death was reported.

According to Nukemap, if the bomb was dropped on Washington D.C, it would have killed 2.2 million people and spread dangerous level of radioactivity as far as Pennsylvania (237Km away from Washington DC)

I was curious when I found out about “Tsar bomba”,I always thought that the most powerful nuclear bomb was fatman(Hiroshima) and little boy(Nagasaki), it turned out that the Soviet had a more powerful thermonuclear weapon than the US.

gratz on your first post. The Tsar Bomba is incomparible to the two bombs dropped on Japan. Those two were measured in KiloTons. Thousands of kilo's TNT. The Tsar Bomba was about 50 MEGA TONS, or millions of kilo's of TNT. The shockwave went around the planet 3 times.
