My Greatest Mistake
The famous quote, "you don't know the worth of something, until you lose it" is true. Jason, Jason!!!! Was all I heard from the other side of the telephone, it was my mother as usual, reporting my wife to me. "Your wife is so lazy, she sleeps alot, she hasn't done any chores since she woke up" .
Have served in the US army for over 10 years, wasn't interested in love, marriage and relationship. I just wanted living a free life, but mom won't allow me rest, each time am home. "Jason, you have to give me a grandchild, that's all you will hear her say everytime she sees me". I was confuse because I didn't want to make the same mistake my elder brother made, "he was forced to marry a lady he barely knew, and they have been living unhappy ever after.
I told mom don't worry, you will have your grandchildren, just give me time, am still trying to fix things to give them a better future. She replied "oh dear, when your father married me, we barely could take Care of ourselves, but we still went ahead to have a family, just try something dear" .
I knew I was in for a real war and not the ones we fought in The army, "Mom please allow me make my choice". She smiled and told me, they was this lady she wanted me to meet, I heaved a sigh of relieve and ask her she was. We entered the car and drove to her house, we met Sharon, "where is my friend" my mom echoed from the back, "she hasn't returned from the grocery store, was her response.
Mom whispered to me "she is the lady I told you about" but mom, I don't even know her, I objected, Sharon was already smiling sheepishly, Wait! There is something about her smile I thought I saw, she is beautiful, tall and has this melodious voice. I shook my head , so I was gonna fall for someone, I barely knew was all I could say, I turned to look at mom, wishing she could read my mind, I wasn't ready to end up like Collins, but who cares, she just wanted grandchildren, not how happy I will be.
Sharon's mom came back, she was pleased to see us, she hugged my mom and I, and requested they prepared lunch, so we could eat before we left. They chatted about everything but not about the marriage we came for. Sharon came to sit outside with me, we both looked unhappy, then she told me, "mum wants to force me to marry you, I barely don't know you". What are your plans" I asked, she told me "marry you then run away after our wedding". All we wanted was to be free from our mother's nags.
