The story of Batirol This afternoon my youngest sister posted in our group chat a photo of a clay chocolate pot called "batirol" and a wooden stirrer called "boloneo". She thanked the donor. When I saw the photo, I was so amazed that she is using it now because the last time I visited her home (before pandemic happened) the batirol and boloneo were no where to be found so I thought that one of her house helps threw it away. All the time it was kept so well by the previous house helps that we couldn't find it. I brought the set from Cebu and hand carried the batirol on the plane because it's made of clay and it's breakable. It was my gift to my sister. She had been looking around Manila for the clay chocolate pot but couldn't find it. I was so happy that my sister can now prepare her favorite sekwate the authentic way just like how our mother did it when we were young. How about you my friends? Have you tried using this old fashioned set of making a hot chocolate or sekwate drink? Old folks here in Cebu believed that making sekwate using the clay batirol and stirring it with the boloneo until it becomes frothy gives a very delicious creamy hot chocolate drink. We can still find vendors at the market selling puto with sekwate using the batirol and boloneo. These photos were taken by my sister and is posted here at Noisecash with her prior permission.
