Bracts of Ashanti Blood I was attracted to this flower and took a snap. I searched for its name and saw "Mussaenda erythrophylla" or Ashanti blood. I found this unique and the flowers above are cute. As I was searching for its name I came upon the word "Bract". It appears that the big red "petal' is a bract. According to the dictionary, "Bracts are modified leaves with a flower or flower clusters on its axil. Bracts are sometimes larger and more brightly colored than the real flowers." So in this plant, the true flowers are those tiny flowers above and below it are the bracts which are bright red in color. Enjoy the beauty of Ashanti Blood.
