Today is a holiday in Cebu City! Malacañang Palace declared a Special Non Working Holiday in Cebu City because of the 500 Years of Christianity celebration. April 14, 2021 is a memorable day for Cebu, a beautiful island in the Philippines, commemorating the 500 Years of the First Baptism, Wedding and Giving of Santo Niño Image in Cebu. It was on April 14 1521 that the Filipinos received the gift of faith through the first baptism held in Cebu. The Rajah of Cebu, King Humabon, and his 50 men accepted to be baptized by the chaplain of the Spanish fleet. The Queen of Cebu, Queen Juana, also received baptism together with other 40 ladies, according to some historians. The Queen was gifted with a wooden image of the Child Jesus Sto. Niño. The miraculous image is now under the care of the Augustinian priests at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu. On this very day, Christianity was born in the Philippines. Photo is not mine. It is from the official photos of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
