Flores de Mayo Every month of May, it is a Christian tradition here in the Philippines that we celebrate a festival called Flores de Mayo or Flowers of May. This is usually practiced in the provinces. Before pandemic, every afternoon in May, the church goers would offer flowers to Mother Mary after the mass. Usually children will bring their flowers to offer to Mama Mary. Some children have angel costumes. Santacrusan ( translated as Festival of the Holy Cross) happens at the end of May to culminate the month long activity. Here, chosen beautiful ladies join a procession or parade donned in their beautiful gowns accompanied by their escorts under a fully decorated arch. In the big cities, many celebrities join the Santacrusan. It was a beautiful parade to watch during those days. I noticed today while attending the online mass, the church still celebrated the Flores de Mayo and after the mass, church goers offered flowers to Mother Mary. I'm glad that the tradition has been observed this time in a new normal way. I still have to see if there will be a Santacrusan at the end of the month.
