As I was looking at this bamboo tree swaying , I remembered a question asked by a member of our family. How do trees cool our environment? Can you please help me answer this? A common logical answer is that trees give us shade or blocks the solar radiation that's why its cooler with trees around us. However there is a technical explanation and the process is known as evapotranspiration. According to Google, "Evapotranspiration (ET) is the combined process of water surface evaporation, soil moisture evaporation, and plant transpiration." When the sun's heat hits the leaves of the trees, the moisture from the leaves would turn into vapor. This is what we call transpiration or water losses through the leaves of the plant or plant surfaces. I always remember my lessons long time ago, that "Evaporation is a process of cooling." Have you observed that when we sweat or perspire, we cool our skin? Energy is needed to transform water into vapor so this will reduce the amount of energy left to warm the air. Result is a cooler air.
