August 21, 1983 This is a very special date for me. I was a new engineer working at the Head Office of a government owned corporation, a Fertilizer plant here in the Philippines during its construction and commissioning stage. As part of my training my Manager asked me to join him and two other managers to attend a seminar in Singapore. It was my very first time to travel abroad. I was very young then joining the managers that time so I was very excited. My boss instilled in my mind that "I should not expect too much when assigned on a business trip especially abroad. Anything could happen even if you already got your tickets. Wait until your foot is on the plane and it has already departed." Up to now, I still remember that warning. Luckily, everything went well and I was able to join them. We had a good time and as I said it's my first time to travel outside the country. We were booked in a first class hotel and each of us has a room of our own. I was very excited at the same time afraid because I am not used to it. It was a very good experience for a young professional like me then. We stayed in Singapore for 4 days and came home on August 21, 1983. When we arrived at the Manila International Airport (MIA), that's the old name of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), I was wondering why there were many yellow ribbons tied around the area and there were some people outside wearing yellow shirts lining. I did not mind that and went out of the departure area to go straight home. When I arrived home, I only heard the sad news that former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was killed/ assassinated at the tarmac when he arrived at MIA just a few hours after our plane landed. I was so shocked and the yellow ribbons came flashing to my memories and realized that the people with yellow shirts lining were waiting for Ninoy to arrive. It was a very sad moment in the history of the Philippines. Today we commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day, and it has been declared as a national non-working day here in our country. I am sharing this experience here at #noisecash to commemorate this very special day, August 21st. #RandomThoughts #OwnContent #Pilipinas
