Stoicism, stoic, or stoicism, comes from the Greek "stoikos" which means "from the stoa (porch or veranda). This refers to the Stoa Poikile, or "Painted Veranda" in Athens. Where the stoic philosopher Zeno of Citium who had a great influence on stoicism once taught.

The teachings of this Stoic philosophy are very diverse, but it can be concluded that its basis is on the development of logic which is divided into two, namely rhetoric and dialectics. In addition, this philosophy also discusses the development of physics and ethics which includes theology and politics.

The teachings of this Stoic philosophy are very diverse, but it can be concluded that its basis is on the development of logic which is divided into two, namely rhetoric and dialectics. In addition, this philosophy also discusses the development of physics and ethics which includes theology and politics.

In the philosophy of stoicism, everything that happens in human life is neutral. Nothing is positive or negative, nothing is bad or good. The thing that can make these things positive or negative, good or bad is our interpretation of them.

The Stoic philosophers thought that happiness was not to be pursued. They focus more on how to reduce negative emotions, ranging from anger, sadness, stress, and confusion. By improving this reasoning, we will be better able to control our behavior in dealing with these emotions. Our fear of facing situations that we do not expect is actually greater than the consequences that will arise from the event.

According to the concept of stoicism

the easiest path to happiness is based on the following principles:

1. The ability to see oneself, the world, and other humans objectively and accept their nature as it is.

2. Discipline to prevent oneself from being controlled by the desire to be happy or the fear of pain and suffering.

3. Make a distinction between what is in our power and what is not.

Moreover, this concept also teaches us that what is under our control are only our own thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, and actions.

Stoicism reveals that wisdom or wisdom is a happiness and judgments should be based on behavior, not words. Where we can not control whatever happens if it comes from outside ourselves or is external. We can only control ourselves and how we respond to the things that happen around us.

The Stoics revealed that feelings of fear or jealousy (whether sexual lust or passionate love for anything) arise from the misjudgment of people in general. But for people who are wise, namely someone who has reached perfection in terms of morals and intellectuals. Then they will not experience it.

The Stoics of the time of Seneca as well as of Epictetus emphasized a doctrine that was already the teaching of the early Stoics, that a wise person would be absolutely immune to any trouble, misfortune or suffering. That means, the attitude of virtue is enough to achieve happiness.

However, it is not simply that only the wise are free from suffering while others are morally evil. This philosophy is not concerned with complicated world theories. It just wants to help us deal with destructive emotions and how to act properly.

Losing a loved one as well as losing a job in the near future, for example. Really down. It's hard to imagine a way to be happy again in such conditions.

This experience was shared by Marc and Angel Chernoff, a married couple as well as personal development experts. However, they managed to change their mindset and habits so they could bounce back from adversity.

Through this book, they share their stories that achieving happiness requires effort.

How to Form a Stoicism Mindset

For those of you who already have a bad habit of procrastinating work or tasks. I don't even know how to get rid of the habit anymore. Well, this time the author will provide several ways so that you can form a stoicism mindset and change old habits into new, better habits. Here's how to form a stoicism mindset.

1. Distinguish Between Changeable and Unchangeable Things

An important practice in the philosophy of stoicism is how to distinguish between what can be changed and what cannot be changed. What we have and what we don't have. Examples of things we have are height, skin color, body shape, weather, and land of birth. An example of something we don't have is the schedule for public transportation, which can suddenly change its schedule. No matter how hard we try, we can never force others to like us. Instead of thinking about things that we can't achieve, it's better for us to be more grateful for what we already have and we hold on to at this time.

2. Get in the habit of making journals

If you want to start your life by applying the principles of stoicism, then you need to get used to writing a daily journal. In ancient Greek philosophy, the habit of journaling was not like keeping a diary. This daily journal is a philosophy that will prepare you for the days ahead.

Armed with this daily journal, we can reflect on events that occurred in the past. You can fill the journal with wisdom from teachers, books, friends, or personal experience. By regularly writing a personal journal, it is not impossible that we will recognize ourselves. So that in the future we will feel happier.

3. Prepare yourself and stay patient in the face of all problems

Keep in mind, that in fact life is not only about things that are beautiful and fun. There will be times when we fall, fall, and get hurt. It is part of life. Living by applying the science of stoicism means that we must be prepared with a view that in fact life is not always happy and comfortable.

There are misfortunes and sorrows that accompany our lives. Therefore, try to prepare yourself for dark days and learn to be able to make peace and accept negative emotions that come your way, such as fear or anxiety. Get in the habit of staying strong and strong to face some of the worst scenarios.

4. Every Bad Thing That Comes Is A New Source Of Happiness

Life will feel heavier and more difficult, if we only focus on the problems at hand. Instead of just thinking about the bad that comes, try to give something good and focus on the good things too. For example by helping someone who has made us sad or angry, or maybe giving a smile to the people who accidentally bumped into our line and nudged us on purpose. In the concept of stoicism, happiness is something that we create ourselves. So it's not just waiting for happiness to come. So, instead of you being lost in sadness, let's create our own happiness and smile.

5. Remember, we are just tiny grains in the universe

The essence of the concept of stoicism is actually very simple. We just need to be aware that we are actually very small creatures in the face of the universe. So are all the things we face. Starting from sadness, obstacles, and other negative things. It's all just a grain of dust. You also need to remember that all achievements in life can be temporary. You can have it for a moment and lose it in an instant. So why don't we replace all the bad things that come with the good stuff?

I also think that if we all could try as much as we all can to accept people and ourselves for who we are and not judge the world would sure be a better place. Nowadays some old men and women do foolish stuff and you will be like is there any wisdom at all in this all person or what, and I think is right to say that wisdom is judged by behaviour and not JUST words.
