What in the fuck is a N F T?
Non fungible token. In dumbest terms, a digital trading card. NFTs have taken the internet and pretty much the world by storm as of late, and everybody wants to know how to get involved. But shit, even in my 20s when I first started looking into NFTs, I felt like an old ass grandpa who was behind on the technology of today's age. So, for anyone who is looking to get their foot in the door of the non fungible token game, look no further than this simple guide. [[ Note, these NFTs are specific to US Basketball (NBA) so if sports aren't your thing, this guide will be pretty useless. HOWEVER, if money happens to be your thing, NBA NFTs are an excellent market to get into. ]]
STEP ONE
Make an account on nbatopshot.com
Verify your identity and all that good stuff.
STEP TWO
Navigate to the PACKS tab on the site and reserve yourself a Base Set pack that is released next week. You'll get a confirmation email and a reminder on the day of the drop.
STEP THREE
On the day of the release, open the link in your email and join the queue for the pack drop. You'll have to wait in line, sometimes behind 60,000 or even 100,000 other NFT hopefuls, but it's worth it. The line usually goes fairly quickly.
You'll be taken to a payment portal once it's your turn, and you'll be able to pay for your pack with a debit card or other payment options that Dapper offers. [[ American Express cards will DECLINE. The system is kind of picky, I usually have about 3 or 4 different cards/accounts on hand as backup in case one or another gets declined. ]]
STEP FOUR
Open your pack. On common releases, you usually get 3-4 white rarity (common) moments. However, there's always a chance for better cards, plus many of the common cards still sell in the marketplace for 50 60 70 dollars.
And that's it. There you have it. Now you have some NFTs to your name, and if you got lucky, you made a tidy profit from a pack of cards that cost $9. With some cards, you may want to hold onto them and let them appreciate in value. With others, I'd certainly sell ASAP in my opinion as the hype surrounding top shot and NFTs in general is absolutely MASSIVE right now, and the period we are currently in will probably be looked back upon as an economic bubble.
[[ A forewarning about the website and its systems. As I said, hype is massive. So the queues can face technical difficulty at times. The payment process can face some hiccups. Your moment collection might have some glitches, or your pack opening fails and you don't get to watch the opening animations for your moments. BUT, if you are persistent, and try to set your mind on securing a pack, it can definitely pay off. Just watch some youtube videos of pack openings and the opener subsequently looking up their cards' worth. People are making BANK. ]]
