Today were looking at the 15 most expensive NFTs ever sold including cryptopunks, and beeple creations.
15 - DOGE
One of the most popular altcoins in the world after Elon Musk mentioned it in 2021, the Dogecoin dog mascot became the worlds fifteenth most expensive NFT in June 2021.
Reportedly spending 1,696.9 Ethereum, NBC News reported that the winner was PleaserDAO, a collective of DeFi leaders, early NFT collectors and digital artists.
They have built a formidable yet benevolent reputation for acquiring culturally significant pieces with a charitable twist and DOGE cost a reported $4 million dollars.
14 - REPLICATOR
Showcasing a photocopier that you would expect to find in any office around the world, this one appears to be in a small apartment with a cat and rug on the floor.
A drafting table, stock sticker and view of a cityscape at night also feature in the NFT, but what makes this one particularly interesting, is that it can mint new NFT's every 15 days.
It was purchased by Mad Dog Jones for $4.1 million dollars, making him the most expensive living artist in all of Canada in April 2021.
Up to 220 unique NTF's will be created and they can be kept or sold as the new owner sees fit.
13 - CRYPTOPUNK #2338
Part of the most popular NFT collections in the world, Larva Labs Cryptopunk One is a series of 88 designs in Larva Lab's Zombie series.
Showing a classic green zombie avatar, CryptoPunk #2338 was created in June 2017 and since then its price has risen over 10,000 percent.
Sold in August 2021 for $4.32 million dollars, CryptoPunk #2338 is one of the most valuable in the collection and was sold to an unknown buyer.
12 - SAVE THOUSANDS OF LIVES
Created for the sole purpose of saving peoples lives, Save Thousands Of Lives was created by Noora Health on May 3, 2021.
It sold a few days later for more than $4.5 million and Noora Health announced that the profits would be used to save and improve thousands of new mothers lives and their families in South Asia.
The money from the sale of this NFT is expected to save 9 in every 1000 births with an average cost of around $1,235 per life saved.
11 - THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING
Featuring the source code for part of the early world-wide-web, this NFT was auctioned in June 2021 with a digital poster of code written by Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of the world-wide-web.
Also included in the sale, which started at $1000 and ended at $5.4 million dollars, also included a letter written by him, and time-stamped documents spelling out the history of the Internet as we know it.
Berners-Lee wrote the code that eventually became the world-wide-web in 1989 while working at CERN and it was initially developed to meet the demand for automated information-sharing between scientists in universities.
10 - STAY FREE
What better way to get in the headlines than leaking classified information from the NSA and thats exactly what Edward Snowden did in 2013.
What many people do not know, is that in 2021, he sold an NFT featuring a print-out of the entire landmark court decision ruling the National Security Agency's mass surveillance violated the law, with a portrait of himself.
The only known NFT to be produced by the whistleblower, it sold in 2021 for around $5.4 million dollars with the proceeds going towards the non-profit Freedom of the Press Foundation.
9 - CRYPTOPUNK #5217
We are back with Lava Labs and the Punks series which is one of the most popular NFT series in the world.
Fetching a massive price tag of $5.45 million dollars, CryptoPunk #5217 has several unique features including a gold chain round the neck and is one of 419 in the collection with a knitted cap.
It is also one of only 24 CryptoPunks to be featured as part of their Ape series.
8 - OCEAN FRONT
Another name you will come across on our list is Beeple, who has created some of the most amazing NFT's in the world.
Ocean Front features a wooden structure in the middle of an ocean with a variety of shipping containers and campers/RVs on top of it.
The NFT sold at auction for a cool $6 million dollars and a number of NFT's from Beeple have sold for 7 figures in recent years.
7 - CROSSROADS
Faturing a giant baby that seems to resemble Donald Trump laying on his side and covered in offensive graffiti, this NFT is the second on our list from Beeple.
Sold on Nifty Gateway for a reported $6.6 Million Dollars, it depicted the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election and Trumps rants on Twitter and Facebook.
The NFT also references several other things including the symbol for ethereum and the HODL term, which stands for hold on for dear life, a term used by crypto holders to ride a price drop.
6 - CRYPTOPUNK #7804
We're starting to see a picture when it comes to some of the most popular NFT's in the world and the Cryptopunk series from Larva Labs is certainly one of the best.
The reason, however, why Cryptopunk #7804 is special, comes from the fact its one of only 9 Alien CryptoPunks currently in existance.
This makes it extra special and the price tag for this amazing NFT topped out at $7.57 Million dollars.
If your wondering, Larva Labs, run by Matt and John, currently has a net worth of close to $1.18 billion dollars.
5 - CRYPTOPUNK #3100
Yet another cryptopunk gracing our list and it is, yet again, part of Larva Labs favourite Alien series of NFT's.
Featuring a blue-greenish skin tone and a blue-and-white headband, limited to only 406 other NFT's in the collection, it originated with a price tag of just $76 dollars.
Sold on March 11, 2021 for a whopping 7.58 million dollars, it became not only one of the most expensite NFTs in the world, but also the series.
4 - CRYPTOPUNK #7523
Saving the best for last when it comes to the cryptopunk series, Cryptopunk#7523 is, currently the most expensive punk to have sold at $11.7 million dollars.
Purchased by DraftKings' shareholder Shalom Meckenzie, this Punk also part of the Alien series and features a red beanie, a gold earring, and a face mask.
These accessories, along with it being part of the limite dedition series seem to have created a perfect storm to make it the most expensive original cryptopunk ever.
3 - HUMAN ONE
Moving away from the cryptopunk series now and jumping back in with the ever popular Beeple, who has created one of the most unique NFT's in the world.
Human One is a human-sized sculpture featuring polished aluminum, mahogany wood, and four video screens creating a combined total resolution of 16K.
Also combining physical elements, the most expensive NFTs display a virtual avatar than can change over years and will update for as long as Beeble is alive.
When it comes to price, the uniqueness showes, with the most expensive NFTs selling for a cool $28.9 million dollars.
2 - THE FIRST 5000 DAYS
When it comes to art institutions such as Christie's, we usually expect to see paintings from Rembrant and Banksy.
Beeple, AKA Mike Winkelmann, however, had other ideas, and decided to sell an entire collection of NFT's as one through their auction services, with The First 5000 days sellign for $69 million dollars.
He is now the third most expensive living artist in the world ins terms of auction prices and is well ahead of people like Jeff Koons and David Hockney.
The first 5000 days features artworks created by Beeple all crammed into one of the most massive and most expensive NFTs, something similar to the million dollar homepage but without advertising.
1 - Most Expensive NFT EVER - THE MERGE
Having created some of the most iconic and most expensive NFT's in the space, artist PAK's identity still remains a complete secret but that has just fueled their placement in the digital art space further.
PAK's NFT, The Merge sold for a record breaking $91.8 Million dollars and let people purchase masses which, in turn, became part of the same creation, the more people spent.
Sold on Nifty Gateway, with 28,983 collectors snapping up 312,686 total units of mass and this beat the record, set by Jeff Koons's 1986 sculpture Rabbit in 2019.
