10 - Largest City In Southern United States

The city of Houston was founded on August 30th 1896 by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby on land near the banks of the Buffalo Bay

Its the fourth largest city in the United States and is the largest city in the Southern United States and Texas.

Founded in 1836, the city of Houston has a 2010 population of 2.1 million and according to the US Census Bereau and Houston's population in 1850 was listed as 2396.

The metro areas population of almost six million people in 2010 is the sixth largest among the United States metropolitan statistical areas according to the recent Census and a 20% increase since the year 2000.

Houston's Latitude is 29 degrees 45 minutes North and its Longditude is 95 degrees and 22 minutes west.

It lies 43 feet above sea level and if Houston were an indipendent nation, it would have the world's 30th largest economy.

The port in Houstoin ranks first in the United States in international water bond tonnage handeled and second in total cargo tonnage handled.

It is the tenth largest port in the world and handled 220 million short tons of domsetic and foreign cargo in 2010.
