Success. What is my definition of success? And peace of mind, what does it mean?
Dictionary-wise, success is the status of having achieved and accomplished an aim or objective. In other words, having achieved a set aim or objective is what makes one successful.
In today’s society however, success is seen as achieving a goal that is usually associated with academics. So being a doctor, a teacher, a lawyer, an engineer, or the like is what makes one successful.
I am not sure then if there is an implicit implication of the definition of the word itself. Or I am just too dumb to understanding it.
In my mind, if we are able to achieve whatever something that makes us happy then that is the time that we are successful.
Maybe, to be successful, aside from achieving the goal that we have set, we must also be not in the state of being indebted with others, financially. So that we can really be happy enjoying our achievement.
It then transcends what the society usually thinks as successful. As long as we are happy and at peace, it may be that we are already successful.
This may be the reason why usually, we equate success as being academically successful.
But do you wish for success if you are always stressed out by work overload? We usually listen to professionals who almost always have no time to enjoy themselves because of having too much work to do in the office or field.
To be fair with everyone, let us take our eyes to those who are living as housewives or house husbands. I personally know some who have been housewives but are now professionals themselves.
According to them, when they were still housewives, they always longed for work that will bring them out of the house and make them working mom. So even though the stress type is different for housewives from professionals, there is still that feeling of stress either way.
When eventually those housewives became professionals, they started looking back to their days caring for their little ones.
What a pity.
Truth be told, yours truly was one of those who longed for the good ole days when she was still sitting down with her little ones and being stuck at home.
Gone were those days when her life has been of relaxed mode and she didn't have to worry about separation anxiety. From her kids.
It's a little too late to back out now from her chosen career. There are reasons why she can't just go back to being a house wife. But what's done is done.
To be fair though, at least she has finally gotten rid of those desperate feelings. Desperate want to be someone other than a mother to kids and wife to husband.
She has finally shown to the world that she is indeed successful.
But then she constantly wants now to go back to the relaxed world.
It's a must then that we choose what we really want. There is no success without a tinge of anxiety.
To make it better, it is best to plan things out and combine it with positivity and good health. I would personally want both success and peace of mind. Whatever we choose to do, we should be at peace with our minds.
And it's not right to choose between success and peace of mind. We should have both.
