Goldshell Mini-DOGE Scrypt Miner Setup and Review
Recently, I wanted to try out LTC and DOGE Merge Mining. So I downloaded CGMiner and tried it out on F2Pool with my NVIDIA 1650 Super GPU. However, I quickly discovered I did not even have the hash power to register on the pool....
So I started looking for a Scrypt ASIC miner on eBay and found the Goldshell Mini-Doge. As of 12/3/2021, with my $0.10 KWh power, I "should" see a $1.57 profit/day. Unsure if this counts merged mining revenue, but if not, that is a bonus!
After listing an old Antminer S7 Silent and 2 Antminer Z9 Mini units on eBay, I put an offer in on a new, sealed VoskCoin Edition Goldshell Mini-Doge Miner with WIFI. And yes, I overpaid........ :)
It did not come with a PSU, but I planned to repurpose a PCI-E 6 pin 16 AWG cable and a 1200 watt HP PSU with breakout board I had from an Antminer. I was a bit concerned as this unit only have 1 PCI-E 6 pin port, but the cable should support up to 400 watts with the device pulling 233 watts. I did opt for shorter cable though.
It took a few days but it finally arrived and I plugged it in my 1200 watt HP PSU.
With the initial setup, you will need a computer and ethernet connection. I had a mini freak out when I turned it on but did not connect the ethernet port. It cycled through a bit, then the light by the PSU went solid red... The issue was that I was not connected to the internet yet.
I plugged in the ethernet cable and using the Find My GoldShell Miner tool, I found the IP address.
Punched that number in my browser, and had to change the language to English. :)
Now, you have to unlock the miner with password "123456789" - yeah, had to go digging for this one.
From here you can add you pool information. I am using F2Pool, so it populates the URL and you just need to add your username.
Hit apply, and now is a good time to connect to your WIFI. I unplugged my ethernet cable, and am now connected via WIFI.
Hopped over to F2Pool and I see my device and it is hashing away!
When using F2Pool, make sure you set both a LTC and DOGE mining address - without a DOGE address, you will not earn any, nor does it accumulate.
Overall this is a cool device. I wish there was some documentation as I did have to scour Google and Reddit for some information. Any questions, let me know!
I will report back after a day or so to share my estimated earnings.
EDIT:
It has been about 24 hours and here is my revenue snapshot. Earning both LTC and Doge from 1 miner. Awesome....
