Foresight, Thinker and Sloth were three young trout who lived in a huge lake with cold and crystal clear waters. At first glance it was almost impossible to distinguish them because they had the same size and identical silvery skin dotted with dark spots, but in terms of character and way of being they were completely different.

Foresighted had a great quality: prudence. Neither in that lake nor in the nearby streams was there a more serious, sensible and responsible trout than her. From a very young age, she Foresighted, she thought that in order to avoid dangers it was fundamental to always be alert, attentive to what was happening around her. She was so formal and cautious that the famous saying “Better safe than sorry” seemed tailor-made for her.

Pensadora had a more cheerful character and a positive attitude towards life's challenges. Unlike Previsor, she was a little crazy, but she also had a great quality that distinguished her from her classmates: the ability to think. This virtue gave her a lot of self-confidence, since when she was in trouble or she had to resolve a conflict, she just had to stop for a few seconds to reflect and make the right decision.

Lazy was lazy, boring and very simple, so the name defined her perfectly. She was never interested in anything other than herself and she used to be sullen and unfriendly to everyone. Since she didn't care about being ignorant, she wasted her life wandering from one place to another with nothing interesting to do or to contribute to her community.

——

Once the introductions have been made, I am going to tell you what happened on a warm summer day in the wonderful place where they lived. It turns out that the three trout were swimming so happily when they were suddenly startled by the presence of a man. It was the first time that such a rare and large being had set foot in that territory, so no one knew what he was doing there or what his intentions were. Faced with this unknown situation, each reacted in a particular way.

Foresighted, as she watched him approach the shore, she had a strong sense of danger and tensed.

– 'Maybe he comes to see the scenery or pick flowers, but just in case I'll leave.'

He didn't even stop to check if he was right! Faced with the slightest doubt, she submerged and hid behind some stones at the bottom so as not to be discovered.

Unlike her partner, Pensadora did not know how to sense the danger and raised her head from the water to carefully observe the human. She noticed how gigantic he was, how grumpy his face was, and the wicker basket he was setting on the grass, but she didn't really feel threatened until she saw him pull out a huge net from inside and begin to unfurl it as he watched. He looked where she was.

– 'I don't like this one bit! It strikes me that this guy is what our grandparents call… a fisherman!'

At that moment he realized that he had to escape if he didn't want to end up in a frying pan at dinner time; yes, she had to do it cautiously because at the slightest mistake, good bye.

– 'I am about to be captured, but my intelligence will save me from almost certain death.'

Instead of running away nervously, she chose to stay still and take a deep breath to relax. Afterwards, she began to do what she knew best: think.

– 'I think… I think I already have the solution.'

Stopping to reflect was very effective because he immediately devised a plan to get out of the quagmire.

– It is clear that the best thing is to play dead!

Demonstrating great talent as an actress, she was placed on her back with her belly facing the sky, turned her eyes to make them blank, and stretched her fins to look like a lifeless animal. She pretended so well that the truth is that she was embarrassing to see her!

Moments later, the fisherman took momentum to cast the net, but when he went to release it something made him change his mind.

– What is that floating on the right side of the lake? It looks like a dead trout. Yuck, yuck… I'd better cast the net to the left.

As soon as the fisherman looked the other way, Pensadora took the opportunity to dash out and camouflage herself behind some aquatic plants.

Foresight and Thinker managed to escape, but what happened to Sloth? As expected, he didn't worry about anything and continued to lounge around as if it wasn't the thing with her. Neither he nor he imagined the danger, nor did he take precautions, nor did he stop to think about anything at all. Inevitably, she fell into the fisherman's nets.

Moral: This old tale teaches us that in life it is important to be farsighted. This means that if one day you feel that something or someone could hurt you, it is best to walk away before it is too late. That was what the first trout did and it came out well.

If your intuition fails you and you suddenly find yourself in a problem or unpleasant situation, don't despair and stop to think, because just like the second trout, by reasoning you will find a good solution.
