One of the things that makes a place more alluring for tourists is its natural beauty. One of them is the dewdrop phenomenon that takes place on the Dieng Plateau in Central Java. The term "poison dew" is used locally.

Despite the fact that Indonesia is a tropical country with just two seasons, this natural phenomenon attracts travelers who want to witness the few moments when the plants freeze and there is snow like winter.

Upas dew is most common during the dry season, between July and August. However, the appearance of dew has not been as fast as the "schedule" in recent years.

For instance, Dieng had already witnessed dew in January 2022. Due to the phenomenon's odd timing, no tourists had arrived at the time of its first appearance.

At dawn, the ice will once more begin to melt, and dew will fall between 4 and 6 am. The Dieng Plateau typically experiences frigid temperatures, starting at 20 degrees or lower. The temperature might drop as low as -1 degrees when dew forms. This is another intriguing feature of the Dieng Plateau, however, it is only accessible at specific times.

Arjuna tample area

Tourists seek out locations like Arjuna Temple to experience the ice-blossom phenomenon. Since early in the morning, tourists have gathered in droves to witness or record this unique occurrence.

The early morning dew was really not missed by many of the tourists who had pitched tents near the Arjuna Temple region. Like a thin layer of transparent crystal, dewdrops coated the entire surface of the grass and leaves. The "assault" of freezing temperatures that pierced the Dieng Plateau at that time did not spare the Arjuna Temple edifice either. somewhat cooler than usual.

Sadly, despite being visually appealing, the dew is harmful to farmers since many of their plants suffer damage from becoming wet, hardening, and even dying. Even dew can kill potato plants on the Dieng Plateau, which are reputed to be able to withstand temperatures of 20 degrees.

The potatoes are wrinkled

However, the farmers there appear to have grown accustomed to the annual dew's presence. They prefer to give up, and once the "winter" is through, they will begin sowing new crops.

If you want to enjoy the dew, it is best to dress in cold-weather-appropriate clothing to prevent your body from freezing. Tourists are frequently amused by locals by offering them snacks and a place to warm up.

This is a phenomenon that is often awaited by Indonesians, especially nature lovers. We can enjoy our own winter in the Dieng plateau without having to go far to Europe or to countries that have winter.
