In Cairo, a highway is being built just a few centimeters away from houses.

If you are somewhat concerned about the noise of cars outside the window, you will be in solidarity with the residents of one of the streets of Egyptian Cairo. Construction of urban roads is not meaningless, but sometimes ruthless. Another proof of this was found in Egypt.

Incredible photos of motorway construction in Egyptian style blew up the Network in a matter of hours. Users at first did not believe their eyes, but after the fact of building a high-speed highway into residential apartment buildings was confirmed, they wondered: "How is this possible?! In fact, in Giza, in order to connect the two ring roads, one of the branches of the scaffolding had to be raised to the level of 6 floor. Now the highway runs at a distance of only ... 50 cm from balconies and windows, and in some places, only 20 centimeters!

The construction of a new highway in Giza, near the Egyptian capital Cairo, was a real sensation around the world. On one section, the road passes in a few centimeters from multi-storey residential buildings - so close that residents will be able to climb from their balconies on 5-6 floors to a new highway, which will be called "Terayet al-Zomor Bridge".

This vital overpass will soon connect the two ring roads leading to the capital Cairo. This part of the highway is designed to unload traffic and improve the infrastructure of the city.

And the worst thing is that in this terrible situation you won't even be able to determine who is "luckier", those residents who found themselves under a bridge and will never see sunlight again, or those who will live above the highway. And this, not to mention those people whose windows will be completely closed by the massive platform of the highway.

In this horrible situation, in an attempt to stop what is happening, residents and the public turned to the Ministry of Housing of the country. The head of the Central Agency for Construction of Egypt Mahmoud Nassar very beautifully and correctly talks about the benefits of the overpass for the entire city. But about the houses, which were in the epicenter of construction, he said that they are simply not on the map of the city and they were built illegally, on unauthorized empty land, so the highway was calculated.

The residents of the most affected multi-storey buildings strongly disagreed with this. They claim that they have all the permitting documents and were legalized back in 2008. For this reason, they demand immediate resettlement and full compensation for the damaged housing, because in such conditions it is impossible to exist and dangerous for health even now. As it turned out, electricity and water supply in these houses are already cut off.

But the authorities are persistent, so most likely people will have to leave their homes without any assistance from the city. And not only the residents of the fourth floor, completely closed by the concrete structure, but also all the rest can not avoid eviction, because the lower part of the houses is in a dark tunnel, and the upper one - will suffocate from exhaust fumes, dust and deafening from the incredible noise.

Although, for those residents whose multi-storey buildings have entered the zone of the highest risk, but are built legally, there are compensation and full or partial resettlement. According to the head of the construction department, more than 16 million dollars have already been allocated for these needs.

For the creation of an important infrastructure project in the form of a high-speed overpass 12.5 km long, 317 million dollars have been allocated from the treasury of the country and the city.

To all appearances, this considerable sum did not include the costs of dismantling multi-storey houses and settling the residents of the problem area whose houses are considered to be self-built. The Parliament is already involved in addressing this issue. For example, Mohamed Fouad insists on reviewing the construction project, arguing that it not only threatens the health and privacy of the tenants themselves, but also directly affects stores, hairdressers and other businesses located on the first floors of the buildings that are located under the road.

But the construction has already advanced very far to talk about its termination and dismantling. And it is hard to predict whether this problem will be solved after the work is done. The only surprising thing is why such an important issue was not solved at the design stage, then it would have been possible to avoid such an absurd and unsafe situation.

Meanwhile, in the social networks Facebook and Twitter users are already making fun of the obviously pathetic planning of the responsible construction company. There are jokes about passengers who ask bus drivers to drop them off on the balcony. Others joke that now they can park directly in the living room or collect the toll on the overpass from the balcony. But most of all, they "worry" about the fact that residents may die under the wheels of a car ... while sleeping. Jokes are jokes, but the residents of Nasr El-Din Street are not at all laughing, because the organizers of such a "miracle" plan that on this busy transit overpass, towards Cairo will be able to rush on 750 thousand cars (!) per day.
