We do not know much about Paul's last years. He stayed in Rome, and continued to preach and write. He remained fearless in the face of his enemies. He would say to his friends:

"What can separate me from the love of God? Can pain of hardship, cruelty, danger, or death? No, for we are able to conquer all such hardships through Christ's love for us. For I am cretain that neither death nor life, nor angles nor powers, nor present nor future, nor natural forces nor height nor depth, nor anything that exists, can separate us from the love of God., which shown us by Christ, our Lord."

Don't owe anything to anyone," he wrote, " except the depth of loving one another. For the man who loves another has fulfilled the law of God. Wake up! Live! The night is nearly over, the day has almost dawned. Shhake off the power of darkness and put on the armour of light. In everything let us remember we belong to Christ."

In the year A.D 64 there was a terrible fire in Rome. The emperor Nero cried, "The Jews have done this! The refuse to worship me as a god! Kill them!

So the long persecution of jews and christians began.

Traditon says that paul was killed at that time, along many other Christians who died as martyrs, rather than give up their faith. The last words of his we know about are these: " The Lord will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. Glory be to him for ever!
