Due to the advent and hard hit of the covid 19 pandemic also known as Corona Virus, it was reported by more than 70 countries that they are at risk of running out of antiretroviral drugs according to a survey conducted by the World Health Organization.
24 countries also said they have a “critically low” stock of antiretroviral drugs also known as ARVs, these are used as a therapy to treat HIV, we have seen a reduction in their supply as a result of the covid19 pandemic, said the WHO.
In May, the WHO and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS evaluated that AIDS related issues in sub-Saharan Africa could increase due to the disturbance of access to antiretroviral medicine. While there's no remedy for HIV, the infection that causes AIDS, antiretroviral drug is demonstrated to control the infection and forestall contamination to other people.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in an announcement.
