Do you work full-time on any employment for any company?
I used to work full-time from 1996 to 2017 in different firms. First as a scientist in a government research organization, then as a professor of electronics in private engineering colleges. Most of my ex-colleagues in the earlier government lab work full-time and earn a secure salary every month.
I quit the permanent government job in 2007, and then from the private academic job in 2017. The government job had many parks, including annual increment of salary, leave travel concession, medical benefits, pension after retirement.
Since the middle of 2017, I worked as a freelance technology architect, researcher, academician, and writer. I worked on many research assignments for clients from different countries. All jobs were done remotely via the Internet. Of course, in the necessity, I also visited a few sites to meet the clients and look into the actual projects physically.
I advised a cryptocurrency startup for brain wave sensing-based authentication.
Never before arose a situation when my clients and I thought of working entirely remotely. The abnormal condition of the current pandemic crisis created a rare opportunity for working remotely.
Do you work online for faraway clients in different countries?
Remember the lovely winter days of 2019. The last day of December 2019 did turn into flamboyant parties. Celebration overwhelmed the entire world. But nobody knew that the 2019 year-ending party wouldn't welcome a happy new year 2020!
By March 2020, a new virus pandemic was announced. The global citizens were forced to let people work from home because the governments imposed full and partial lockdowns. Some nations are still enforcing conditions on their citizens to visit office locations and work on the sites.
Earlier people have called it "Work from Home"
Now, they have started to call it "Work from Anywhere"
The main theme is "Remote Work"
It took a crisis to evolve into the most viable option for work. Suppose I am from Africa or South America, and I write technical blogs for a tech startup in the US or UK. It was not so openly viable earlier. Many and most global companies have considered working for a job from a remote location.
Today's topic is about the options of "Work from Home" and "Work from Anywhere." We may call it "Remote Work."
"Remote Work" is the topic of the time.
Work from home or anywhere is a welcome option
A pandemic broke for whatsoever reason. But, with a stroke of government orders, the entire globe was panicked-ridden to remain inside for months after months.
Now, after impositions of so many lockdowns connected to the current pandemic, working from home has become very obvious.
"Remote Work" is a welcome topic to almost everyone in the world now.
Of course, agriculture, manufacturing, servicing of devices (such as computers, mobile phones, etc.), and many other works (such as sports, music, acting, hands-on teching) will certainly remain as "on-site" jobs. Robots are being tried for many such jobs, but the success rate is not so encouraging.
Still, it is under a cloud if the new virus is so fatal as it is propagated by the mainstream news media and the government medical associations. But, remote work has evolved as a viable option.
Advantages of "Work from Anywhere" or "Remote Work"
There are many advantages of adopting the "Work from Anywhere" option. It can save a lot of resources in terms of money and time. The following questions answer these points.
Why spend on office space when employees can work from anywhere?
Why maintain an expensive home near the place of work?
Why waste commuting time between the office and home?
But, there is a limitation. Can all works be performed from home or anywhere via the Internet? The answer to this question is negative.
But, all works can't be executed online
All work can't be executed remotely. Manufacturing companies must remain functioning. Otherwise, there would be an acute shortage of consumer products, food items, electronic devices, and other utility goods.
Therefore, agriculture, manufacturing, servicing of devices (such as computers, mobile phones, etc.), and many other manufacturing and production jobs, and sports, music, ptactical teaching will remain as "on-site" jobs only.
Although, robots are tried for many jobs, but the success rate is not satisfactory.
Should companies compromise on the quality of work? It is a big question. Thus, every manual work of humans cannot be replaced by machines.
Bringing it altogether
"Work from Home" or "Work from Anywhere" is always a viable option for many works, such as computer programming, writing, digital publishing, digital art, some areas of academics and education, teaching theoretical subjects, etc.
There remains a vast area of manufacturing and production engineering, civil construction, laboratory, practical teaching, sports job, music, acting, and above all, agriculture and food production, and many more jobs that can never be accomplished online via the Internet.

I am a tech researcher but sometimes required to work with hands-on electronic devices. Often, I need to meet the clients and the students offline. I am also a lover and practitioner of musical instruments, and I like to attend physical musical performances. Therefore I wouldn't say I like the lockdowns to continue. The world must open up to normalcy. The sooner it is, the better.
