After receiving the highest number of votes, Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS. Eight members of the 54-member Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) were elected at the UN headquarters in New York on Monday. According to a statement issued by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Bangladesh got 53 out of 54 votes in the election. One member abstained from voting. Bangladesh will be a member of this executive board for the period 2021-23. The term of office will start from January 1. According to the statement, the victory is a testament to the strong legacy, trust and confidence that Bangladesh has gained due to the relentless progress of Bangladesh in socio-economic development under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and working closely with UN agencies and its executive boards. Bangladesh is currently a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF and UN Women. In addition, Rabab Fatima, Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is currently chairing the UNICEF Executive Board.
