I've never tried to step up, but this is based on my observations here. The more audience, comments, and likes you have, the higher the points you will get.
Things to Consider Before Boosting:
• Enough money in your RC wallet.
Boosting the money needed, so make sure you have enough funds to pay for your boost. Be responsible for the amount you use as it is non-refundable.

How can you improve your article?
The Boost icon is above your profile name.
1. Click the Boost icon.
2. Adjust the desired boost power and boost duration.
Boost performance refers to the percentage of views you want and Boost Duration to how long you want your article to be above all of the visibility.
3. Click Save and Pay. The amount you entered will be paid from your wallet. It is not refundable. So don't send more than you need.
4. Clicking on the Boost icon again helps in boosting or adding Boost later.
